I am SO grateful for my new BFF, my bodybugg.  I was incredibly hungry all day on Saturday.  Like every two hours hungry.  I knew it was coming at some point since last week seemed to be the one week out of the month that I am not ravenous.  I didn’t get the workout done on Saturday like I had planned so I didn’t have the extra calories to play with like I usually do. That’s where my new best friend came into play.  Since the Bodybugg measures calories burned, I was able to see how many calories I had burned at any given time and eat appropriately.  Without it….Saturday would have been a disaster.  Instead I remained in control the entire day.  I even ended up with a good size deficit and my hard work all week didn’t end up in the toilet.  Bodybugg fan for life!

Saturday afternoon I made a recipe form the latest issue of Taste of Home’s Healthy Cooking magazine.

It’s Pizza Pasta!

The guys ate it all weekend!  Minus Aidan…..that’s a blog post in itself…. He has become quite the picky eater and that is an understatement.  Frustration doesn’t even cover the feelings I have when I try to get him to eat.  I am forced to go against every belief I have when it comes to feeding my children…..I am becoming a short order cook and I hate that.  But the child is skin and bones and has lost weight he didn’t have to lose.  I have resorted to letting him eat peanut butter out of the jar because its fun for him…..and one of the only things he will eat voluntarily.  I am on the search for every tip, trick and recipe I can find for picky eaters, as well as encouragement that this too shall pass.

I was sad to see the weekend go but was ready to get back to my beloved routine.

Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt, 14 almonds and cinnamon.

I jogged for an hour in the park this morning.  It was lovely as usual!

My new favorite thing to have after a long workout is Vitamin Water.  It makes me feel so much better.

photo 5

I also had an apple and some almonds a little later after a long shower.

Lunch was so yummy today!

Orowheat Sandwich Thin with ham, guacamole, and provolone cheese pressed in my Panini maker, carrots and more guacamole!

I better start meal planning for next week.  I am hoping to have Aidan search recipes with me.  Maybe, if I am lucky and he can sit still for 2 minutes, we will find something!

Good Luck to ME!

Dr. Oz experiment update!

Guess what I got yesterday?

It’s the raspberry ketones I talked about last week.

Top Secret Raspberry Ketones

I have taken two so far.  One last night and one this morning.  My plan is to take two a day for 30 days.  I took my measurements last night and I’ll take them again in 30 days.  I haven’t felt any weird side effects so that was win #1 since I am super sensitive to things.

photo 2

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 tbsp. chia seed

I was feeling super energized this morning, unlike yesterday, and couldn’t wait to get started.  The gym was PACKED and I literally drove around for 5 min waiting for a spot to open up.  I guess the parking lot situation was because there were at least 3 group classes going on.  The cardio equipment was open & I got my favorite treadmill!!!  I planned on doing 30 min on the treadmill then some upper body strength but by the time I finished the treadmill work there were about 4 people in the spot I like like to use.  So I decided I would go home and do Jillian’s 30 Day Shred.

By the time I got home I was famished. So before I started Jillian’s workout I had a little snack.

photo 2 (2)

Fuji apple, 1 piece cinnamon protein bread

photo 3

1/2 large baked sweet potato with spray butter and Ideal Brown Sugar Blend

I didn’t have time to eat the other half.  Thumbs down

Before I left to pick up Aidan I knew I would need something else to tie me over until I could get back home.

Annie’s PB & J granola bar, Vitamin Water

Bank trip

Aidan had saved up a bunch of coins and wanted a new toy.  We went to the bank to exchange them after school today!  $9.06.  Then we went to Target for a new toy!

By the time we made it home it was 3:15 and clearly I had not eaten enough earlier in the day.  This is just one of the things I ate this afternoon!  I.WAS.RAVENOUS.

Dannon Greek non-fat yogurt in Strawberry, protein bread

You can add to this: peanuts, another few pieces of bread, a granola bar.  I am planning on eating the other half of that potato for dinner tonight so I will have at least 1 serving of veggies today.   Note to self: eat better tomorrow…ok?

Worst Mother Ever

This morning didn’t go quite as usual, but regardless of the fact that Aidan and I were up off and on all night and sleep completely eluded me between 1-3am, I was still up for the day at 5am.  Thumbs up  Aidan’s allergies were unusually bad yesterday.  I thought he was just having a bad day and even his 3 medications for it were no match for whatever had blown in.  Then at 1 am, listening to him sneeze and cough, I realized that I forgotten to give him his meds Sunday morning. *Worst Mother Ever* So I got up and gave him a half dose so we could get back on his usual schedule later and hopefully that would give him some relief.  Then I realized I had only been giving him a half dose for a few days now.  *REALLY WORST MOTHER EVER*  No wonder my child was hacking up a lung and sneezing like he had his nose in some pepper.

My day STARTED as usual, up at 5, coffee STAT….but  Aidan still wasn’t feeling well and he woke up just as Jeremy was leaving at 5:30.  Jeremy didn’t have time to coax him back into bed and I was deep in prayer just trying to stay awake til my coffee kicked in.  So we decided to let him lay down on the couch.  He never went back to sleep and was sure to make it known he was there.

I had my breakfastphoto 1

Nature’s Own whole wheat bread, 1/2 tbsp. all-natural peanut butter, sprinkle of chia seeds, 1/2 small banana, pumpkin pie spice

Then just as I was finishing up the chores, I went to get Aidan ready for the gym and found him like this.

photo 2

Bless him

So I decided it would be a workout at home day.  I had a lot to catch up on anyway so I proceeded to do a mountain of laundry, vacuum, clean out the fridge, wash a billion dishes that seemed to appear out of no where and then I got hungry again.

photo 3

Dannon Greek Yogurt in blueberry, chia seeds, a few almonds, and protein bread

I swear I was hungry every two hours today. A couple hours after this I had an apple.

Then I was ready for a  workout

Let me just get on my soapbox for a minute.  Jillian Michaels rocks my socks.  I can honestly say that she was a huge catalyst in the weight loss. She helped me change my attitude from “poor me” to “shut up and sweat.”  Through the weight loss her quotes and face came to me so many times.  I can remember telling myself quite a few times, “Would Jillian eat that?” Her workouts are brutal, but they get you results, FAST.  I did this workout for months and went from not being able to get through the first circuit on Level 1 to now doing 2 workouts in a row.  Her workouts changed my body.  Her philosophy is literally no excuses. Well, unless you faint, puke or die that is!   She is someone I admire and is such a source of encouragement and motivation til this day.  I listen to her podcasts and read her books, anything I can get my hands on because she.is.phenomenal.

Red heart

Today I did Level 2 then Level 1 of 30 Day Shred.  I like to do Level 2  first because I can make it through both workouts this way.  If I do Level 1 first I am fatigued and can’t keep proper form all the way through 2.  This video is perfect for those who “Don’t have time” or “Don’t have space”.  It’s 27 minutes start to finish, that includes warm up so you are only doing serious work for about 20 min.  I have done this video in the small open spaces of bedrooms.  You do need a set of hand weights.  Those are inexpensive to buy individually.  You can start out by buying 3 or 5 lb. weights. For beginners, I would suggest 3 pounds and if you are more advanced 5 pounds.  I alternate 8lbs and 5lbs.  Usually I start out with the 8’s and sometimes even go down to 3’s by the end.  If you are on hard floors, a mat would be a good idea.  Seriously, my go-to workout.  Especially when plans for the gym are cancelled.

More of the same….I am going to try to get more veggies in this week.

Turkey and Provolone on Orowheat Sandwich Thin, grapes, strawberries, baby carrots.  AND…..Vitamin Water Zero, my second favorite flavor in Mega-C

photo 3 (2)

I was still hungry so I had a Luna Bar.  Yums.

I showered up, put some laundry away, broke up some fights, and then I was hungry again….every two hours on the dot.

photo 4

Apple, protein bread, 1/2 tbsp. all-natural peanut butter.

This kept me satiated for about 2 hours….Good thing its time for dinner!  Leftovers!

Tonight I have to try to make a menu for next week.  I think that’s about all the mental energy I can muster for the rest of today!

of note: more about 30 day shred

My husband, my personal trainer

I love working out with my husband because, he pushes me out of my comfort zone by showing me exercises I have never heard of.

Me:  lil_jon_dave_chappelle_

Jeremy: lil_jon_yeah

He helps me use heavier weights by lugging them around for me as my puny arms & back cannot lift up a 45 lb. plate for a leg circuit, and he makes me laugh by doing this impression,

when I absolutely can not lift myself up even a single inch more.

Rolling on the floor laughing We did chest and back today through a series of supersets.  Totally out-of-my-comfort-zone supersets at that. They left me barely able to hold the pen to write down what we were doing. I can’t wait to try it again! You start out with a warm-up weight, add more for the second set, a little more for the third and then drop back down to the beginning weight for the last set of ten.  For ex. On bench press, my sets looked like this

Set 1 Bar (45lbs)

Set 2 Bar plus 10 (55lbs)

Set 3 Bar plus 20 (65lbs)

Set 4 Bar (45lbs)

The point is to work to fatigue & by the last set it should be hard to lift the lightest weight. image

I also did my ab challenge

Breakfast was, SURPRISE!  A little different.  We slept in this morning until 7 and had to be at the gym pretty soon so I wasn’t super hungry for breakfast but knew I had to eat something.

photo 1 (2)

1/2 and Orowheat sandwich thin, 1/2 tbsp. all-natural peanut butter, sprinkle of chia seeds, 1/2 small banana, sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

Then it was off to the gym to join Jeremy for his ridiculous chest and back workout.

Dinner was so yummy I went back for just a little bit more.

It’s been a long, lovely, beautiful day.  Church tomorrow morning, soccer tomorrow night.  I better hurry up to bed.  We may have to catch the late service in order to sleep a tad bit longer!
