Smoothies, Playlists, Gadgets, Oh My!

I think its safe to say I have caught the running bug again.  I go through phases.  Phases when I am completely obsessed with running, then I start hurting and I have to back off, then I start doing videos and sometimes I get sick of working out all together…..Annoyed  But I have come full circle and found my deep love of running again.  It’s so simple and highly effective.

We have a lovely little running trail in our neighborhood!  I jogged/walked (so out of shape) 3 days last week, as well as today, and I plan on it tomorrow as well!

My old heart rate monitor started acting up so I got a new one!  Nothing like a new gadget to motivate me to workout!

I also made a new playlist.  Music fuels me more than food.

  • Anything Can Happen – Ellie Goulding
  • Blown Away – Carrie Underwood
  • Catch My Breath – Kelly Clarkson (OOOOHHHH Kelly Clarkson!)
  • Hang With Me – Robyn
  • Hello, My Name Is – Matthew West
  • Mirrors – Justin Timberlake ( I can’t stop listening to this!  I am listening to it now as a matter of fact!)
  • Next To Me – Emeli Sande (can’t stop this one either)
  • Sweet Nothing (feat. Florence Welch) – Calvin Harris
  • Times – Tenth Avenue North
  • Wake Up- All Sons and Daughters

I feel so amazing, beautiful, confident, & on top of the world after a good run….Runner’s high maybe?  I wish I could bottle it.

The Smoothie Gods have been kind to me lately as well.  Listen, I have dumped many a concoctions down the sink.  But lately, I am obsessed with this smoothie.  I actually wrote down a recipe as well so I could recreate it!  Mostly I just dump stuff in and pray for the best!  <<<<—— clearly not a good technique.

It’s based on Dashing Dish protein shakes.  It’s her Peanut Butter Maple version that I used as a guide.

photo 3 (2)

This one has……

  • 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese
  • ice (that I didn’t measure, possibly 1 cup of crushed ice?  Follow her number if using cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla protein powder
  • handful of spinach
  • 2 tablespoons PB2
  • 1 tablespoon sugar free butterscotch pudding mix
  • 1 tsp. maple extract
  • 1 packet Truvia
  • 3/4 cup light vanilla soy milk ( I usually use unsweetened vanilla almond milk but ran out today Thumbs down)

As a side note:

A while back we found out Trixie has bladder stones and rather than pay $2,000 for surgery, we decided to try and manage them with diet.  She started acting really strange last week but wasn’t presenting any of the symptoms we were told to look out for.  Then one morning (about day 3 of the strange behavior) she came in from using the yard whimpering.  That afternoon Jeremy took her in.  I couldn’t bare the bad news I knew was coming.  I asked that somehow God would intervene. I didn’t know how in the world he would, but I asked anyway.  Jeremy came home and made the boys go to their rooms and brought me into our bedroom.  I felt tears welling up and my throat closing.  He said “They have to come out.”  I said “We cant….” He said, “Dr. Franklin said he would do it for this….” Then he handed me a sheet of paper.  The total was circled.  $342   I was so overwhelmed with joy!!!  TRIXIE LIVES!!!!!!

So Wednesday morning she is scheduled for surgery!

It’s (finally) beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

I hope all had a lovely weekend!  Mine was pretty good!  Laid back just the way I like it.  It was just me and little A all weekend which is always nice.  Aidan is a total homebody like I am so we were both content to hang around the house all weekend just enjoying the peace and quiet.  We did get out for a bit on Saturday for some Christmas shopping but after three stores we both decided that being in traffic and standing lines was not how we wanted to spend the day.

Red heartRed heartRed heart

I never shared his school picture did I?  He is so beautiful.

I must mention that the reason I hadn’t shared it yet was because I had to reorder them.  In the first set he had blue marker on his nose. WHAT? Yes…he did. Smile  I thought “Ummmm, excuse me but how did that get past his teacher, the photographer and the editor yet it was the first thing I saw?!?!”  I don’t know…but thank goodness for Photoshop.

I haven’t done an excellent job of food documentary.  I have had this for breakfast the last several mornings.

photo 3 (2)

Except this morning I had a banana, some almonds and half a boiled egg in addition.  I didn’t eat dinner last night and woke up famished.  I didn’t eat dinner last night? No, I was so exhausted by the end of the day and my head was pounding.  It was all I could do just to make sandwiches and slice up oranges for my boys.  I found myself in bed by 7pm giving half hearted directions to shower, brush your teeth, stop fighting, pick up ya’ll’s toys…..I’m not exactly sure why I was so tired.  It had been a go-go-go kind of day though so I supposed my battery just died.

After doing Level 2 of 30 day Shred, I cleaned up quickly and ran some errands.  When I got back home I ate some tuna salad I had prepped that morning.

photo 4 (2)

This was two cans of tuna, 2 tbsp. light mayo, homemade relish (just a pickle crushed up in my food processor), a squeeze of mustard, and some pepper.

When I got home from more errands yesterday afternoon I was super hungry and ate an apple, a few handfuls of almonds and a bag of 100 calorie popcorn.  I suppose that was another reason I wasn’t super hungry at dinner.  I made up for it this morning though!

It took me 2 hours to get my house cleaned up this morning.  What am I talking about? This is every morning.  Is it just me or does anyone else’s home explode between the time their children get up & when they leave for school?  I am not kidding….I go to bed, the house is tidy, I wake up, the house is tidy….three hours later I have to go through each and every room, picking up clothes, toys, wiping down sinks and toilets, two loads of laundry everyday.  I don’t know how two little people can make such huge messes.  It’s chaos chaos, we leave and then I return home to the aftermath and think  “What the heck happened in here?” The kitchen alone takes an hour….I am so glad I don’t have a “real” job.  I’d go crazy.

I didn’t feel like doing 30 Day Shred again today. I really wanted to go for a run.  The fact that it was literally freezing this morning made me cringe just thinking about it.

photo 2

But the thought of doing 50 squat thrusts made me cringe even more…..So I bundled up and went for it.

photo 1

About a mile into my run, the gloves and jacket come off.  Lesson #1 of running in cold weather, you won’t be cold for long.

When I got back I noticed my plants looked down right pitiful!

photo 1 (2)

It’s so sad because they THRIVED in the 110 degree heat this summer.  I hope they don’t completely perish.

I trimmed them up and gave them some water so hopefully they’ll perk up as the weather begins to warm up.

photo 4

Anywhoooo….my huge breakfast is finally wearing off and I need to find something for lunch!

Before I go I’ll leave you with some pictures of cute animals and some inspiration to get ya booty movin!

You mess with my waffle, I will cut you.

ahhhhh warmth…..

Oh Ryanvia

Why yes, yes I would LOVE to run a marathon!

Rain on our Parade

Since we were rained out today all of our plans were cancelled.  While I am THANKFUL for the rain,

photo 5 (3)

I am not a fan of the cold and wet.  I would appreciate it much more if the temp was 105.

We tried to make the most of it though.

Breakfast was yummers!

I had a little more than usual again

photo 1

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

3/4 cup unsweetened Silk Almond milk

1/2 tbsp. chia seeds

1/2 tbsp. Ideal brown sugar blend

1/2 small banana

1 tbsp. natural peanut butter

This amount has held me over the last two mornings until lunch.  I didn’t even get sort of hungry until around 12:30 when my stomach was growling letting me know I was hungry. Thumbs up To think I used to completely skip breakfast all together. Silly me!

photo 2

“Skip a meal?  NEVER!”

I made some granola.

photo 3 (4)

Talked to my friend who is remodeling her kitchen….DIY.  It’s not going as smoothly as planned.  I told her she should have auditioned for Renovation Realities. I hate that she lives the equivalent of four states away.

At least I could take care of her kids for her Thumbs down

Got some of the weekly housework done that I normally do on Sunday.

Today’s crummy weather called for a warm beverage

photo 5 (5)

1/2 cup Silk unsweetened almond milk & 2 tbsp.Ghirardelli Hot Cocoa

This was the perfect afternoon treat.

Then I had appointment with my home girl

and one of my favorite workouts.

I just have to say, it STILL kicks my derrière.  Every.Time

She’s a piece of work.

What I would DO to have her yell at me!

Afterwards I had a Peanut Honey Luna Bar to refuel.

It’s been nice to have so much down time for a few days. Tomorrow we have church in the morning, but I am guessing soccer practice is a no-go for the afternoon, considering the fields are probably a swamp right now.  Thumbs down Poor little A.

The boys are having some spaghetti I put in the freezer last week.  I love weeks when my menu consists of lots of leftovers stocked up the freezer.  I haven’t had much of an appetite today so I am not sure what I will be having.  I might have a repeat of lunch.  It was delightful.  Then I am going to do some prep for a crock pot dish I am making tomorrow!  I can’t wait, it sounds incredible!!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday Evening!

Sleeping is Boring

Friday morning around 3:20 my sweet little 5 year old comes in my room saying “I’m thirsty, can you get me some water?” “Aidan, you know where the cups are and you know how to get water.” “Please?”  So I get up, get him some water and we both toss and turn for the next hour because “Sleeping is boring”. No, no my dear sleeping is not boring, sleeping is FUN!

Despite the interruption, I got up at 5 full of energy.  I was able to get to sleep pretty early and slept solid until Mr. CutiePie came in.

Coffee w/ unsweetened almond milk and Truvia

Do you like my coasters?  I finally found some I like!  Thank You World Market!

photo 2

I had more breakfast than usual.

~ 1/2 cup old fashioned oats

~ 3/4 cup unsweetened Almond milk

~ 1 tsp. chia seed

~ 1 tsp. Ideal brown sugar blend

~ 1 tbsp. all natural peanut butter

I left the banana off because they still aren’t quite as ripe as I like them to be.

I think having a slightly larger breakfast helped with my workout,

and maybe this little guy about 30 min prior to it.

photo 4

I ate breakfast earlier than I usually do and found myself getting hungry right before I was about to leave for the gym.  I hate working out when I am hungry but I didn’t want to eat much because running with a full belly is not comfortable.  Sick smile

So I don’t know if it was the rest day on Thursday, or the bigger breakfast, or the little banana, but I had the best workout I have had in a very long time.

I started my treadmill workout like I  normally do. I was not feeling the least bit tired or bored so the end looked like this

20:00-25:00 min 5.8 mph

25:00-27:00 min 6.0 mph

27:00-29:00 min 6.2 mph

29:00-30:00 min 6.5 mph.

30:00-35:00 cool down, slowing speed every 1 minute

Yes, that is correct. No, no it is not a typo. These stubby little munchkin legs ran 6.5 mph for an entire minute.

Perception of Running

I’m sorry, this never gets old to me

After the run, I had an equally incredible upper body workout that left my arms feeling like Jell-O.

I didn’t pack a snack for the car ride home because I knew we were coming straight home and I would just have lunch because it was that time anyway. But first I had to deal with this

in the kitchen

…and in the bedroom

Don’t think the thought of taking her to the shelter didn’t cross my mind.

Good thing she’s super cute, and this is the worst that she does.

Jamie’s Pumpkin Bread

I was SUPER hungry. This held me over for awhile though.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty relaxed.  I got dressed and talked to my best friend who gave me a huge boost of confidence I desperately needed.  I did the laundry, dishes, etc..

Luke and Jeremy came home from their days at school and work.  They all went outside for a while.  Jeremy was mowing the grass and getting a bunch of stuff done to my car.  The boys were riding bikes and playing outside.  It’s such strange feeling when everyone is out of the house.  It’s so quiet and still.  The boys have so much energy that it permeates the house. The energy is tangible.  One of the sweetest sounds to me is the muffled laughter and squeals of my children playing outside.  They are so carefree and full of life.  Not one bit tainted or jaded by the world or people.  They are simply beautiful.

Before I knew it, it was time for Luke to leave for his Dad’s house.  His dad gets him for Spring Break this year. Thumbs down Even though having just one of my sons at home is much easier, I REALLY miss Luke when he is gone for so long.  Sad smile Poor thing wasn’t happy to be leaving for so long either.  But distance makes the heart grow fonder.  I am worried about him a little though because they are going to see his grandparents and his grandfather has cancer.  I hope and pray that Ronnie (grandfather) is well enough to see Luke.  I wish I could protect Luke from all the sadness in this world.  He still cries sometimes over losing Uncle Daniel.

Friday night is Pizza Night for the boys so I made myself some leftovers

photo 1 (3)

sadly, this is the last of Gina’s salad & broccoli and the roasted sweet potatoes

I didn’t snap pictures of my snacks today but I did gather what I had and took one picture of them all

photo 3 (3)

My afternoon snacks were a Larabar and a bowl of PB Cheerios dry.

A while after dinner I had two….yes two Quaker granola bars.

photo 2 (4)

I thought I wanted some Chocolate Cheerios but changed my mind.  I did find this book in the box though!  Top notch Cheerios!!  Top notch.

Here are some random pictures I took through the day:

Why Jeremy? Why?

Well, I am off to start our Saturday.  We had planned on going to the gym and then straight to Aidan’s soccer game but it’s supposed to be raining all day so they cancelled soccer and I am going to workout at home.

Hope Saturday is good to everyone!
