No Ray of Sunshine

I don’t know how to effectively express the frustration I feel over the selling of this house.  We have been SO close so many times.  Today we had two showings and one of them said they liked ours the best but are now considering building.  Will some one please stick a ^($*&%()#@#@$# fork in my eye now please?  I have had emotional break down after emotional break down, my stomach is in knots over the whole thing and I can’t sleep.  I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to throw in the towel.  We came VERY close last week after the people wrote a %(*^*&#()%^& offer but backed out last minute……I just feel we are so close and can’t give up now……Don't give upvia

Dinner last night was REALLY good.

I picked up a frozen dinner at this little grocery store we like to go to called ALDI.

It’s really hit or miss there but they have a lot of natural foods and are super inexpensive because you bag your own groceries and have to use a quarter to get a basket.  When you return your basket, you get your quarter back.  It’s kind of fun.  What?  Hey….. I said I am a simple girl!

I ate the frozen dinner with some Wheat Thins and some chipotle hummus.  Later I had a  “no sugar added” (whatever that means) fudge pop for dessert.

All I wanted to do today was lay in bed, watch T.V., read, sleep, watch T.V., sleep.  But no, at 7:30 am I get a phone call from the showing company requesting approval for an appointment at 11am.  I am so thankful we have lots of showings, but on the real…..I am REALLY over it.  Instead of being a complete sloth today I got my house show ready, got myself ready and we left for a few hours in the cold and rain.  Later we got a request for 3-4 so we ended up staying out all afternoon.  We went to Toys R Us to exchange some duplicate gifts, The Children’s Place for some new jeans and then AIDAN got a treat for being so good.  I will choose not to speak about Luke today.  Let’s just say 11 yr. old boys (well MY 11 yr. old boy) would rather clean toilets than go shopping for clothes.  I try to get them things while I am out by myself,  but because he has grown about a foot in the last 4 months, I am not ever sure of his size.  He pretty much hates me at this point in the day.  It’s ok….I have the power to withhold an Itouch until I feel like giving it back.  Right now…..NEVER.  He is darn lucky that Jeremy is the single most patient man IN THE WORLD…..that’s not an exaggeration either.

I got these for the boys but it’s the only thing that sounded good to me this morning.

Chobani Greek Yogurt bite in Raspberry with Dark Chocolate.  I added a serving of almonds.  It was superb!!!  I have been trying to avoid the Greek yogurts because they are so high in sugar but I love this smaller portion.   It was the perfect thing this morning.

I skipped lunch….don’t judge me…..but brought one of these for when my appetite returned later.

I used the recipe from DAMY for the pecan pie Larabar. For the other, I am proud to say I made my own creation and it wasn’t a complete mess.

Using the measurement rules from her site I put together the following:

Peanut Butter Pecan Larabars

1/3 cup pitted chopped dates

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1 tbsp. natural peanut butter

1/2 tsp. vanilla

dash of cinnamon

dash of sea salt

Nutritional Info:

Makes 4 bars

170 calories; 13g carbs; 13g fat; 3g fibers; 10g sugars; 3 protein

I ate countless dates, almonds and pecans which was the best part of my experiment as well as tasting the end product.

I am about ready to call it a day.  After sleeping for about zero hours last night PLUS a nightmare…..I am exhausted.

We both got my usual Spinach Sweet Crisp Salad with Tomato Basil Soup.  I was very proud of the both of us for skipping the croutons in our soup & the focaccia bread.  I was extremely proud of Jer for ordering water instead of a Dr. Pepper.  Never mind the 2 donuts and 3 donut holes he ate this morning with the boys.  Hey….it’s an improvement and that’s all I can ask!  I was very impressed with myself for picking off as much of the sweet crisp that comes on the salad as I could.  VICTORY!

We did a little Christmas shopping and then I got my special Starbucks treat on the way home.  I am down to just ONE Splenda in a Grande!  Before I would add 3!  YIKES!

Jeremy is currently trying to fix our leaky kitchen faucet.  There hasn’t been one thing that man hasn’t been able to fix in this house, but……it never fails that he runs into some sort of pickle in the process.  Right now he is on trip number two to Home Depot!  I sure do hope I have running water in my kitchen sink tonight!  I am sort of hesitant to start dinner without a functioning sink!

Women’s Health Photo Shoot

About a year and a half ago, actually it was May of 2011, the Women’s Health Facebook page posted a request for anyone who had lost weight to submit their story to Brittany Risher @ such-in-such email…..I was like an overachieving elementary kid, jumping out of my chair with my hand raised….. “OOOH OOH I HAVE ONE!!! PICK ME!! PICK ME!!! I HAVE ONE!” So I sat down and wrote it out, hit send and that was that. I kind of forgot about it until 6 months later when I got a response! Brittany wrote that she thought my story would be perfect for Women’s Health, asked if I was still interested (ummmm ya think?), and if so, to submit more recent photos (i.e checking if I had gained the weight back…NEVER). So I responded, did a happy dance and that was that…… 6 months later……She emails me once again asking if I was still interested & that she would be submitting my story to the editors that week. Say What?! 3 months later…….Jill Waldbieser emails me saying I was chosen for the You Lose, You Win piece in the April 2013 issue. No freaking way!

I had to send even more photos, sign a photo release and she let me know that a writer would be in touch with me for an interview…..it was unreal. The beginning of October I had a phone interview, and then on Tuesday the photo director emailed me asking for a good date to do a photo shoot within the next 10 days. Disappointed smile I gave them 3 dates, one being today, not really thinking it was enough time to set up a photographer but wouldn’t cha know….He was available TODAY! So I just went with it. Kenny Braun got in touch with me and we set up a time and a place to meet. We met at Cameron Park in Waco. Since he is based out of Austin, this was a halfway point for both of us. He is such a nice guy. He made me feel so relaxed and gave great direction. I loved watching him scope out the views, he was in a zone.

Last night I kept dreaming that my alarm didn’t go off and I woke up at 8:40. We had to leave by 7:30. I also dreamt that Jeremy got called into work and couldn’t come with me. I woke up every hour. My alarm was set to go off at 4am so needless to say I didn’t get any sleep. My adrenaline and nerves masked any sleep deprivation. I got myself psyched up by listening to Pandora’s 80’s rock station, the same one I usually listen to on my runs, did a lot of positive affirmations, and tried to just plain not think about it. “IT” being the fact that this was a photo shoot for a national magazine. That just made me want to vomit. I couldn’t eat breakfast but managed to eat half a banana and drink some Vitamin Water Zero during the shoot.

The actual shoot was such a blast! It was so fun. I tried to just be in the moment, be myself and stay relaxed. Kenny was so great, such a calm spirit and I think that really helped.

I trotted down and back, down and back about 20 times.

Climbed “Jacob’s Ladder” and hopped down the steps all while looking at the camera or off into the distance about 20 times. I finally got the hang of it by the last few shots. Don’t think I didn’t almost bust my tail a few times.

I skipped on rocks….while looking off into the distance….no easy task. I was pleased with my coordination and not breaking an ankle.

After about 3 hours we wrapped and headed over to my fave…..Chick-Fil-A and ordered my usual salad.

Before we came home Jeremy stopped and picked up a Grande Non-Fat Misto for me from Starbucks. I was exhausted but didn’t want to fall into a coma when I got home. So I took a long hot shower, drank my Misto, sat down in bed to write this post and I don’t plan on moving the rest of the night! Best day ever.

A Civil War and a Great Wolf Adventure

I’m not going to lie. I wasn’t prepared for the summer break. I didn’t know I needed to be. My children love each other. Or so I thought. Last week was like a civil war around here. Do any of you know how mentally exhausting it is to be a peacemaker? I didn’t, but I do now! Thankfully Jeremy is on vacation now and the boys will be going to Mimi and Papa’s house next week. Vacation! Couldn’t have come at a better time. I love my kids more than anything but…..sometimes, a sistah needs a break!

On to happier times…..

The first night we ate at Fuddruckers. I was absolutely starving by this point and forgot to take a picture. So I took one of what was left. This would be the pattern over the next few days. I got the turkey burger and fries. I divided the meal in two, ate half and boxed up the rest. Which I never ended up eating. Thumbs down

The Iron Horse Fitness Room in the hotel was really great. I was so excited to use their fancy treadmill! We all worked out Tuesday morning and on Wednesday morning I got up super early to work off those ice cream cones. Yes….THOSE…as in plural. As in two to be precise!

There was a small crisis that my brilliant son averted.

“Jeremy….I left my running shoes by the front door yesterday morning….”

“Mommy, you can wear my shoes!”

“Oh my gosh….Luke you are brilliant! I CAN wear your shoes.”

They were a little big believe it or not, but they did the job!

In order to still eat healthy while on vacation, we always pretty much pack our entire pantry…We also went to the grocery store to stock up on cold foods that we kept in the refrigerator in the room. Minus the Fuddruckers and breakfast Wednesday morning we snacked all day and had cereal and sandwiches for our other meals.

This is also a good idea if you are the type who is not inclined to spend a small fortune on food.

There is a game called MagiQuest.

They love it. They actually were able to finish the game this time! The last time we went, it was for only one night and they didn’t get nearly enough MagiQuest time.

The game is described as this….

Wednesday morning we went to I-Hop for breakfast. I got the Simple and Fit Whole Wheat French Toast. Once again I was starving and Luke said “MOMMY! You forgot to take a picture!”….soooo once again this is what was left.

Our first visit to Great Wolf was for Luke’s 9th birthday.

It was such a great time and we are going to (God willing) make this a yearly trip for as long as we can! I don’t think the boys will EVER out grow it.

Spontaneous MDO

Last night, after 2 days of constantly breaking up fight after fight between two boys who all of the sudden can’t seem to get along…..I told Jeremy that I was cancelling our plans to sleep in and workout with Bob.  Instead I was getting up super early, going for a nice long run, getting pretty and then I would be leaving for the rest of the day……He is such an amazing man…his response “I know, babe, I know its been rough.”

So that was exactly what I did.  I got up this morning bright, well, actually, it was still dark.  I got up dark and early Winking smile, had my coffee, quiet time, and a banana to fuel up for an nice long therapeutic run.

I didn’t actually run for an hour and a half….this included cool down time and some stretching.

It was a great run though.  I incorporated intervals and felt so amazing afterwards.  I miss running outside.  I am going to have to start getting up before the sun just so I can get some in over the summer.  So worth it.

So then I got my messy self presentable for my second therapy session.

Coach rocks my world.  I still carry my first Coach bag.  It was a Christmas present from Jeremy about 6 or 7 years ago.  In fact, I was carrying it today.  I commented that it still looks brand new after all these years &  I carried it for two years straight every single day.

After my visit to the best store in the world I parked myself in Barnes & Noble with my  Grande Non-Fat Misto to try and find a new cookbook.

When I got home I was ready for a snack because I knew what was for dinner!  Otherwise I would have eaten right then….at 4pm…..4 servings of lasagna and 4 pesto muffins.

Skinnytaste Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Scones.

I went ahead and made these last night instead of this morning because I was not too sure how they would turn out after mixing up the dough.  Scones are usually a very thick dough that you can knead.  This batter was very cake-like.  Gina’s recipes are always spot on so I didn’t question it.  While these “scones” are very good, they aren’t a scone.  They are more like bread.  The batter would be best used for muffins, and the serving size is VERY small for the amount of calories it holds.  If you used the batter for muffins, it would make 12.  So a muffin for 200 calories is quite a lot.  That didn’t stop me from eating about 3 of them straight out of the oven! What? She said serve warm!

The strawberry salad and cobbler were magnificent.  This is the kind of place that leaves you wanting more.  I SO wish I could have taken my leftovers home.  Sadly, I had to leave them.  I am going to make us a completely unhealthified cobbler sometime soon!

How many of you can identify with this?  I know I can.

Sometimes life gets a little crazy and sometimes you just need to unplug and decompress.  I think it is essential, especially for mothers and wives, to do this.  We spend so much time   …..most  of our time…..ok pretty much every waking moment taking care of everyone else, we forget we need to be taken care of too.  Our spirits need to be filled, our bodies need rest and relaxation, and our minds need to be turned off.

So for two days I did just that.  It was LOVELY & I feel 1000% better.

I worked-out Wednesday morning on the treadmill and then did some abs and stretching.

I finally started Catching Fire Wednesday afternoon.

I ironed.  This is relaxing for me…I never have time make time for ironing and it stresses me out.  I have many summer clothes that I can’t wear unless I iron them…so I am stuck with wash and wear stuff over and over.  It makes me sad when I go into my closet and see so much potential for cute outfits but I can’t wear any of it because I lack ironing discipline. So I ironed for two hours on Wednesday night and watched about 5 DVR’d  Joyce Meyer shows.  I record these but never get to actually sit and watch them.

This is brilliant.  You buy the box of 10 of their favorite fragrance samples.  Wear them, test them out, decide which one you like & return the gift voucher in the box for a full size bottle.  When we got home I had all 3 boys sitting on the bed with me smelling perfumes and getting their opinion.  It was adorable.  Today I am wearing the one we all liked the best, Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola.  It smells really lovely at first, but then the scent fades quickly.  Perfect example of why it’s good try it out first.

We picked up little A from school and went to get Jeremy’s hair cut and more sweets.  Copious I said.

I slept like a rock last night, probably because I had another case of insomnia Wednesday night.  I found myself asleep sitting up in bed after trying to read just one chapter of Catching Fire.

I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and 20 on the elliptical.  It felt really good and I got super sweaty.  I downloaded some new music from Itunes and I am pretty sure that had everything to do with it.  Music is essential for cardio.  It’s a non-negotiable for me.  These people who work out with no music are bionic or something.

I must say that I think Spring and Summer are a much prettier season for dressing!  In the winter, the only thing I am concerned about is how many layers I am going to need.

First, we stopped by Ulta to sniff out some new perfumes, get some special lotion for Luke’s skin issues and pick up my free gift for spending too much money being such a loyal customer.

Then we “stopped in real quick” at Old Navy and I ended up buying a dress, a pair of shorts and two tops.  Oooopsie!  In all seriousness, I DO need new clothes, on the REAL.  I am honestly still catching up from having to get rid of pretty much every last item of clothing I used to own.  Even the ones I got mid-weight loss are now too big.  I can’t ‘”make them work” anymore.  Good problem to have I suppose. Winking smile

Our last stops were Barnes & Noble for book # 2 in a series Luke is reading and Jason’s Deli for Lunch.

My salad had baby greens, peas, broccoli, cucumbers, baby carrots, trail mix, 1 crouton Winking smile, granola, a spicy nut mix and fat free honey mustard.  Good gracious I love me some kitchen sink salads!  On the side was some sort of rice dish that I didn’t care for.  Hummus, crackers, a ginger bread muffin and a cornbread muffin.  I ate all of the salad plate, the crackers with some of the hummus, & a bite of each muffin.  I also had a scoop of banana and chocolate pudding from the salad bar.  The best part of the meal was the frozen yogurt cone they offer at the end of the meal.  Deeeeelish!

It was HARD, I mean HARD to get up yesterday morning.  I ended up forcing myself out of bed a little after 6am.

Every Day Oats II

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

1 cup unsweetened Silk almond milk

1 tbsp. Spectrum Chia Seeds

1/2 tbsp. Ideal brown sugar blend

1 tbsp. all-natural peanut butter

1/2 small banana

For some reason (well, I know the reason now, but that’s neither here nor there!) I was feeling a bit out of sorts yesterday.  I went ahead with my plans for the day, with the resolve to not pay one bit of attention to my emotions.  I figured a good workout was in order.  Tuesdays are cardio days so I was looking forward to running off some of the unexplained anxiety I was feeling and zoning out with a good magazine on the elliptical.

My treadmill workout looked like this

I was beat after that.  I took a few minutes to cool down, went to the ladies room and then got on the elliptical for 15 more minutes.  I had intended on a full 60 minutes, but that last few minutes on the treadmill was some WORK for my stubby legs!

I knew we were going were to be limited on time when we got back so before I left for the gym I prepped our lunch.  I made a sandwich for Aidan and some tuna fish salad for myself.  I was glad because even though my breakfast did a great job of holding me over, I was ready to eat!

I got myself cleaned up so we could go over to a friends house for the rest of the afternoon.  Right before we left I got some hunger pangs.  I knew we wouldn’t be back until late so I went ahead and ate something to hold me over for the rest of the afternoon.

I ended up eating about half of the yogurt, covered it and put it back in the fridge.

Afterwards, I bribed Aidan with a cookie and a “Root-Beard” then I got a non-fat Misto from Starbucks and a MUCH needed pedicure.

A visit with a good friend, a coffee, and a pedicure were exactly what I needed to shake off whatever it was trying to ruin my day.

By the time I got home my sweet Jeremy was already there & we had dinner.

I went back for seconds and then had a Quaker low-fat Smore’s granola bar for dessert.

We were ALL ready for a good nights sleep.

Date Day/Rescheduled Treat Day

It’s Thursday which means its…DATE DAY! I also decided to reschedule my treat day to today.  Good thing because my appetite was ready!

Yesterday afternoon, I had a little snack of an apple and some string cheese,photo 1 (2)and then repeated yesterday’s lunch for dinner.  After dinner I had a couple pieces of protein bread.

For breakfast I switched things up slightly!

We started our date by going to Starbucks for my tall Misto and then going our separate ways for a bit….I know but sometimes when you have kids, you have to make the most of your alone time.  He desperately needed a haircut and I needed a manicure.  Luckily neither took too long.  We met back up and went to our movie.

I know the critics don’t have good things to say about it but I DO!  It was so fun!  It is a perfect date movie.  You have action, spy stuff, computer and techy stuff for the guys, but it isn’t over the top.  Then you have adorable Reese Witherspoon and hunky Chris Pine and Tom Hardy for the girls.  The guys were super tough but then sweet and vulnerable while they were with her.  It was a perfect balance.  I loved the music. I really loved Chelsea Handler.  I laughed a lot, and actually got laughing so hard in one scene I was crying.  It’s light and fun.  5 stars in my opinion!

After the movie we ate at Frullati, and I had the Rustic Veggie Melt on flatbread.  I was famished by the time the movie ended and finished my meal before I remembered to snap a photo. Thumbs down I ordered the combo meal which was half a Panini, chips and a drink.  I chose Sunchips and a Diet Coke. I REALLY loved it! I must try to recreate this at home!  It was super messy though, and I will probably eat it with a fork and knife next time.  Times like those I wish I still carried baby wipes everywhere!

We went to pick up little A and stopped for yogurt since I had been craving it for a couple of weeks now.

I made the mistake of trying to talk to the insurance company while eating this and didn’t really get to enjoy it.  I am not sure why I did that, I know better.  She had called me about a billion times already.  Ok, only twice. But still….either way it really wasn’t that good.  The cake batter yogurt was good but everything else was just mediocre.  At least I took care of that yogurt craving, until the next time that is.  Winking smile

 Treat Day was rescheduled for today and one of my FAVORITE things is trail mix.  Salty and Sweet is something I just can’t be trusted around.  I really avoid salt, and sweets, and I REALLY avoid the two combined.  So for my treat,  I mixed together mini chocolate chips, homemade granola, peanuts, almonds and dried cranberries.  I will most likely eat all of this in one sitting, graze on this through the evening.

Luke had a friend over this afternoon and the house was a bit chaotic.  I had planned a run, but that didn’t happen. Thumbs down Luke  goes to his dad’s house Thursday nights and Jeremy took Aidan to soccer practice so I get to enjoy an hour or so of peace and quiet! I am going to try to work on a few things around here while everyone is out and I can hear myself think!

My favorite day

Sundays are my favorite.  Sundays are for all of my favorite things to do.

I got up at my usual time, 5am, but it was hard.  Really hard.  I sat there on the bed for a good 5 minutes before I forced myself up.  I guess the two hour coma nap I got yesterday was not enough to catch me up from the night before.   I will confess that I need a lot of sleep to power through the long days.  I think its from the lack of sleep I got during the “lost years” after Aidan was born!  That or I am just getting old.  Once I was up and had some coffee I was feeling like myself again.

After church on Sundays, the boys and I stop for donuts, chocolate milk and coffee.  Oh glorious day!

On the agenda for today

  • “weekly cleaning” – vacuuming, dusting, mopping
  • baking –  Jamie’s protein bars : today I am going to try to use banana baby food instead of carrots in one batch.  Good luck to me!

  • Boots – Airwalk – Payless from about 5 years ago.  Funny thing about those boots is that I got them because they were the only ones I could find to fit my calves.  Now they are really big and are “slouchy”
  • Jewelry you can’t see: big fake square diamond earrings and my white Fossil watch.

Sundays are supposed to be my treat days.  The days where I allow myself to eat all day long everything I know I am not supposed to.  I don’t know why but there isn’t really anything I am wanting. I did want those donuts though.  My appetite was lacking last night too.  When I woke up it was about 6pm and I just felt off.  Probably because I slept so hard, also when I fell asleep it was light and when I woke up it was dark.  I did make myself have a little something

I had the yogurt I was going to have at lunch but added chia seeds, almonds and Honey Bunches of Oats cereal to make it a little more nutritiously substantial without adding too much bulk.  It was perfect.  I am more than sure by 4pm I will be ravenous.  One can only hope, after all its TREAT DAY!
