I guess it’s about time

that I finally post something!  It’s been a full summer thus far but I think it will be slowing down here in the next week or so.  Luke is going to be going to his dad’s for the month of July beginning Friday so it will be just me and Little A most of the time after that.

Last week the boys went to stay with Jeremy’s parents for the week.  On Monday we met at Chili’s, had lunch (I got a cup of the Chicken Enchilada Soup, so YUM) and then we drove back to Dallas…..alone.  It was so quiet that it was just plain weird.

We had planned to get some things done Monday afternoon when we got back into town but I was so tired by the end of the drive and had a headache from reading in the car.  All I wanted to do was lay down.  So I DID!  It was glorious!

Tuesday

Tuesday we got to go somewhere that I had been wanting to go for a really long time.  The last time I went to the Allen Outlets was a few years ago and I only got to go into one store.  Jeremy and I made a day of it and got there first thing!  We shopped around a while, finding nothing and getting hungry so over lunch I devised a plan of attack!

I circled and labeled all the stores I really wanted to go to and when we got back we started on one side and worked our way to the other.

FINALLY,  I found the first of many purchases at Kenneth Cole.  I love the tagline on their shopping bag….Everyone Needs an Outlet.  Yes, and shopping is one of mine!  Thank goodness for Jeremy’s sake I am a bargain shopper.

I couldn’t believe I found these, they look almost exactly like my ones from Target!  These are better because my Target ones don’t have the braid over the ankle and my heel slips off the back when I walk.  These feel much better made although I have a blister on my big toe now.  It’s ok…they are cute enough to endure the pain!  Winking smile

I asked for no tomato and mustard instead of mayo….I guess they heard no tomato sub lettuce, no mayo sub lettuce.  Either way it was really good!  I ate half the soup and half the sandwich and it was a perfect portion for me.  I hate the huge portion sizes they serve at restaurants.  It’s so hard to leave half on my plate even though I KNOW that even just half is usually too much.  I think every time…..such a waste, there are people starving.

I LOVED this movie!  I love it so much I want to buy it!  It was adorable and honestly, who doesn’t love Bradley Cooper?  If you don’t, you should see someone.  I want to watch it again.

We went to breakfast at La Madeline.

This was REALLY good.  I ate half the oatmeal,  half the croissant and all of the fruit.  It was perfect and filling.

Then we caught the matinee of Snow White and the Huntsman.

Love, love, loved.  It was freakin loooooong but I had no clue.  This says a lot because I have the attention span of a 5 yr. old.  I think Kristen Stewart did a great job.  Clearly she has had some acting lessons since her Twilight days.  Charlize stole the show for me though.  Evil Queen indeed!

I had on a cute top under this jacket….but since I get cold if its 85 degrees and there is a breeze, I turned into a fashion DON’T before our movie.  Good thing we were in a dark theater.

We decided on lunch at the Chick-Fil-A in the mall.  It was 2 pm and I was getting hangry.  So I figured it would be a good idea to get something quick.

We found a sunny spot to thaw out under and enjoyed lunch.  I got my usual side salad with fat free honey mustard.  I added all the sunflower seeds and croutons.  This time I decided to add my fruit cup on top instead of eating it separately.  I didn’t like it as much…I don’t like the honey mustard on my fruit.  I think I will do this next time but change my dressing to the vinaigrette.

Jeremy made me do it…..but really, it was inevitable.

I didn’t eat it ALL…..just about 3/4!  It was REALLY good, but as expected not as life changing as I had imagined.  I could totally make this at home and in fact, have made something like this before with plain M&M’s, granola, raisins, and some sort of cereal.

That night I got to watch the week’s episode of Dallas!!!  I am so excited to have a new show to watch!!!  I never really get attached to a series because I never have time to watch them.  But this is appointment television for me!  Scandalous!  I vaguely remember the show from when I was little, but I want to buy the original series and watch all of them!!!

In Time

In Time

Great storyline, just waaaaaaay toooooo long.  I fell asleep but was rudely awoken several times by sounds of gunshots. Thumbs down  I’d recommend it, just know it’s really long.

I just remembered what I did Friday. Confused smile DUH!  Jeremy worked his extra job so I had the day to myself!  I slept in late, cleaned the house a little and then went to exchange some things from Ulta & Target.  By Friday I was REALLY missing the boys.  I was honestly sort of depressed.  It’s funny because when I said goodbye to them on Monday, I thought….gee I am not sure 5 days will be long enough.  Clearly….. I needed a break.  By Thursday I was getting pretty bummed and by Friday I was just depressed.  I really missed my little boys.  It was so incredibly quiet Friday morning.  The energy they give off is tangible.

Saturday

Finally FINALLY it was time to go get them!  The drive there seemed endless.  We met again in Abilene and ate lunch a Chili’s.  I had the chicken enchilada soup again!  So YUM!!!!

The best mom/mimi in the world and her boys!

I am so glad they are back.  We all slept late this morning and had a great day today!  Fussing, complaining, fighting and all!  It was music to my ears. Tomorrow is back to reality and a regular schedule.  I hope the treadmill doesn’t kill me after a week of ignoring it!

Request Denied….

So my abundant energy yesterday took a complete nose dive around 3:30 yesterday afternoon.  I was counting the minutes until Jeremy finally made it home.  I was so tired that I was laying in bed by the time he got home and didn’t even have enough energy to get onto my children who were completely taking advantage of the fact that Mommy was collapsed in the bed.

“Aidan, go brush your teeth.”

“No.”

“Luke have you put lotion on? And please go put some socks on your feet, I mopped today”

“Boys please stay in your rooms until Daddy gets home, don’t talk to each other and please stop fighting.”

5 min later I hear them fighting…..in the living room.  Whatever, I didn’t even care anymore.  Been there before?

Jeremy walked through that door not a minute too soon.  He was so sweet and brought home some ice cream, but I was too exhausted to eat it!  Thumbs down I was dead to the world by 8pm.

I slept well last night and felt really good this morning.  I am still feeling really good which is surprising because normally I am worthless by 2pm.  Which got me thinking.  I had a really incredible workout yesterday.  Not only did I run, but I came home and did level 2 of 30 Day Shred, THEN I mopped our floors.  But by 3…..forget it.  It was literally like when your cold medicine has worn off.  It was sudden, I was driving home from the grocery store and it hit me.

This morning I had another incredible run.  I ran for 30 min increasing the speed every 5 minutes.  I did walk for 5 min in between but finished like I was some sort of machine at 5.8 for 2 min and then 6 mph for 2 min, which is fast for these stubby legs.  I really surprised myself.   I was definitely in “the zone”.  I did some ab work afterwards and then some stretching.  When I got home I felt like running another couple of miles or doing a DVD.  But I had to start on some other things so I didn’t have the time.  For some reason I decided to look up L-Carnitine which is the other supplement in the raspberry ketone I am taking.  I found that one of the benefits of a carnitine supplement is that it has been shown to reduce fatigue.   I am wondering if it has anything to do with the way I have felt during my workouts.  I took one this morning with breakfast and my morning vitamins and I also took one with lunch instead of dinner (like I did last night).  I am feeling great!  I did just drink some Spark,  so I am sure that has something to do with it too.  But it’s something to note!  I decided on the TopSecret formula after a woman at GNC recommended the L-Carnitine alone.  She had some good results in fat loss with it.  I have heard of L-Carnitine but have never been one for supplements so I never paid much attention to the uses of it.

What’s funny is the above article says it is “likely ineffective for improving athletic ability. There is no evidence that taking L-carnitine supplements will improve exercise performance or endurance, even in trained athletes.”

Well, I am here to tell you now….it seems to be workin for me…..Winking smile  But then again, I could just be having a good couple of days!

So far I am liking the supplement.  I should be getting my kidney bean extract sometime soon.  I am still deciding if I want to start taking it as well.  I think I will wait until I am finished with the ketones so I don’t contaminate the experiment Winking smile

Another Smoothie.  I have been craving them in the morning.  I think because it’s not as chilly and they seem to settle faster enabling me to get to the gym earlier.  Even though I LOVE this combo, I need to come up with a new one.  Today’s smoothie was exceptional and super thick.  I almost had to eat it with a spoon.

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop EAS Lean 15
  • 1 tablespoon chia
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 small frozen banana

I love the Parchment bake so much.  It is so quick and easy to make.  It only takes 20 minutes to bake, there is ZERO mess to clean up and it is delicious!

I must say that I think Spring and Summer are a much prettier season for dressing!  In the winter, the only thing I am concerned about is how many layers I am going to need.

First, we stopped by Ulta to sniff out some new perfumes, get some special lotion for Luke’s skin issues and pick up my free gift for spending too much money being such a loyal customer.

Then we “stopped in real quick” at Old Navy and I ended up buying a dress, a pair of shorts and two tops.  Oooopsie!  In all seriousness, I DO need new clothes, on the REAL.  I am honestly still catching up from having to get rid of pretty much every last item of clothing I used to own.  Even the ones I got mid-weight loss are now too big.  I can’t ‘”make them work” anymore.  Good problem to have I suppose. Winking smile

Our last stops were Barnes & Noble for book # 2 in a series Luke is reading and Jason’s Deli for Lunch.

My salad had baby greens, peas, broccoli, cucumbers, baby carrots, trail mix, 1 crouton Winking smile, granola, a spicy nut mix and fat free honey mustard.  Good gracious I love me some kitchen sink salads!  On the side was some sort of rice dish that I didn’t care for.  Hummus, crackers, a ginger bread muffin and a cornbread muffin.  I ate all of the salad plate, the crackers with some of the hummus, & a bite of each muffin.  I also had a scoop of banana and chocolate pudding from the salad bar.  The best part of the meal was the frozen yogurt cone they offer at the end of the meal.  Deeeeelish!

I FINALLY found a pair of wedges that I love!  And they weren’t $40 either!  I found them at Ross for $18.99, normally $45.  I’m sorry, but I think I could win an award for finding deals.  I think it might just be a God-given talent!  I’m going to wear them tomorrow so I will show them then!  I’m so happy, they are just darlin’!

I ran out of almond milk yesterday morning! Sad day! So I had to find something else to eat besides my beloved oatmeal.  I thought about re-creating Tuesday’s breakfast but I didn’t want to take all that time, dirty up all those dishes and it was a too little heavy to eat that early and so close to gym time. Instead,  I made an old stand-by.

It was good, but it didn’t satisfy me or fill me up the way my oats do. Thumbs down It also affected my workout and I was ravenous afterwards.

I was SO sore yesterday morning.  My hips, my hamstrings, lower back, derrière.  I thought a nice easy elliptical workout would be perfect.  So my workout looked like this.

The only time it got up where I like it to be was while I was at level 12 and I sure as heck wasn’t staying there the whole time.  It’s ok though, some days are just like that.  I blame it on my breakfast!  Today is a rest day so I know I will have a GREAT workout tomorrow.

We had to run to the bank after the gym and the whole time I was thinking about what I was going to eat for lunch!  THEN Jeremy needed to stop by Kroger….I was like OH MY GOSH get me home NOW…..You won’t like me when I’m HANGRY!  He was so sweet though, he wanted to buy some flowers!  That made me forget about how hungry I was!  I will wait until they open up a bit before I take a picture of them!

When we finally made it home, I made a beeline for the kitchen.

Orowheat Sandwich Thin w/ Hormel all-natural turkey and 1 slice of Sargento reduced-fat Colby-Jack cheese pressed in my Panini Maker.  Salad w/ a handful of baby spinach, carrots, grapes, 14 almonds, 2 tbsp. Athenos reduced-fat feta cheese & 1 tbsp. Kraft Light Sicilian Roasted Garlic Balsamic Vinaigrette.

After lunch I had a Quaker Chocolate Chip granola bar.

I spent the afternoon shopping for Easter stuff.  Found my shoes, did not find something cute for Aidan to wear, nor myself Thumbs down.  Did not find shoes for Aidan & did not find the toy he wants so desperately that he won’t stop talking about it.  I guess after our fun Dentist Date today we will look some more.

When I got back from shopping, I put together Easter eggs for Aidan’s party at school today.  Don’t ask me WHY I chose my absolute favorite candy of all time to put in those eggs. Ok, I’ll tell you.  #1, I had a coupon if you bought two and #2, I need a bag for the topping on some cupcakes.

A repeat of my sandwich at lunch and my favorite….POPCHIPS!  I usually steer clear of these because I have eaten an entire full size bag in one sitting before. Can you say “Trigger Food”?  They had the small 8 oz. bags 2/$1 so I grabbed two.

I then had another Quaker Granola Bar for dessert…..my sweet-tooth was bugging me yesterday.  Thankfully today is TREAT DAY.

This morning Jeremy and I have dentist appointments!  JOY!  Then we are definitely going to eat at Mimi’s!  Maybe (hopefully) we will get some frozen yogurt too! Or ice cream or a cupcake, or a bag of M&M’s….One can dream!

Someone please tell me WHY I keep waking up at 4:20am and not able to go back to sleep?  Those 40 minutes are precious!  I had to drag myself out of bed again yesterday morning.  It may or may not have had something to do with the fact that I didn’t go to bed until almost 11pm the night before.  What was that I wrote about the importance of sleep?  I was fortunate enough to be able to take another nap in the afternoon and felt much better.  I hate going into the beginning of the week (Friday is our Monday) exhausted.

We went to Schlotzsky’s and it was a good substitution.  I got the small smoked turkey breast, baked bbq chips, a Diet Dr Pepper & a yummy cookie! I ate all of my meal which was shocking to the both of us because I usually eat all of my chips and 1/4 of my sandwich.  Then an hour later I finish it at home.  Not today, I was famished!

So about the movie….

Hunger Gamesvia

Please forgive me if I ramble.  I was just so impressed with so many things I can’t even organize them into a seamless thought pattern.  I was surprised that I was brought to tears in a few scenes….Jennifer Lawrence is a SUPERB actress.  Her ability to deliver the emotions of the book was nothing short of outstanding.  I thought all of the actors were remarkably true to the characters in the book.  Effie was brilliant.  I was thoroughly impressed with how Woody Harrelson played Haymitch.  It’s incredibly refreshing to see a female heroine.  Strong, yet vulnerable.  How many women in our society can identify with Katniss Everdeen?  It was just phenomenal.  Although I LOVED it, there were a few things I wasn’t happy about.  How in the world did this movie get a PG-13 rating?  It was so brutal and the situational content was a bit mature in my opinion.  Then again, I wouldn’t let my 13 year old see Breaking Dawn either. That’s just me. The other thing was how shaky the filming was.  I understand it was for effect but man, it was giving me a headache. The director could have scaled back on that.  I have not read the second book yet, but it is waiting for me!  I will probably spend most of the weekend devouring it.

This morning I put 1 tsp. of Ideal brown sugar blend and a whole tbsp of PB. ; So good.

My workout was a 30 min treadmill run:

0:00-5:00 walk ; 4.3 mph

5:00-10:00 ; 5.0 mph

10:00-15:00 ; ; 5.4 mph

15:00-20:00 ; 5.6 mph

20:00-22.30 5.8 mph

22:30-25:00 6.0 mph

25:00-30:00 walk 4.3

30:00-35:00 cool down, slowing the speed every 1 minute.

I have really, REALLY short legs so this works for me. ; You will of course want to adjust the speed based on your fitness level.

I decided not to wear my heart rate monitor. ; I have really been working on not focusing on numbers anymore and this seems to be the last thing to go. ; I was hanging onto it so that I could make sure my heart rate stayed where it needed to. I was hanging onto it because I loved seeing how many calories I burned. ; But it’s not about how many calories I burned or whether or not my heart rate is low that day or high. ; Just like it doesn’t matter what number comes up on the scale. What matters is that I am doing to it be healthy and because I love it. ; I think forgetting it at home yesterday was a sign.

After the run I did my lower body workout.

One of the things I love so much about Texas is the weather! Annoyed

I went outside right before we left and felt like a t-shirt and a windbreaker were appropriate.  Wow, was I wrong.  I think the with the wind and the setting sun, the temperature must have dropped at least 20 degrees!  We were freeeeezing! At one point I was stuck like glue to Luke just trying to get some sense of warmth.  And trust me, you would have thought I was trying to put a tiara on him.  Next time, I will be sure to check the weather beforehand.

Yesterday started pretty normal.  We usually go to the first service on Sunday, but I  felt like we all needed a little extra sleep.  Saturday night I decided that we would go to the last service instead.  I slept in til 7 and had my usual routine.  Coffee, breakfast, chores. Every time I write that I think of the Jersey Shore.  GTL: gym, tan, laundry.  Though I have never seen an episode I think that is just ridiculously funny.  I digress….

Black Bean Burrito Bake

I am thankful that I got in bed by 8:30 last night and was out cold by 9.  Good thing because the Insomnia Fairy visited between 1-3 am.  AnnoyedThumbs down

I love working out with my husband because, he pushes me out of my comfort zone by showing me exercises I have never heard of.

He helps me use heavier weights by lugging them around for me as my puny arms & back cannot lift up a 45 lb. plate for a leg circuit, and he makes me laugh by doing this impression,

when I absolutely can not lift myself up even a single inch more.

Rolling on the floor laughing We did chest and back today through a series of supersets.  Totally out-of-my-comfort-zone supersets at that. They left me barely able to hold the pen to write down what we were doing. I can’t wait to try it again! You start out with a warm-up weight, add more for the second set, a little more for the third and then drop back down to the beginning weight for the last set of ten.  For ex. On bench press, my sets looked like this

Set 1 Bar (45lbs)

Set 2 Bar plus 10 (55lbs)

Set 3 Bar plus 20 (65lbs)

Set 4 Bar (45lbs)

The point is to work to fatigue & by the last set it should be hard to lift the lightest weight. image

Breakfast was, SURPRISE!  A little different.  We slept in this morning until 7 and had to be at the gym pretty soon so I wasn’t super hungry for breakfast but knew I had to eat something.

1/2 and Orowheat sandwich thin, 1/2 tbsp. all-natural peanut butter, sprinkle of chia seeds, 1/2 small banana, sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.

Then it was off to the gym to join Jeremy for his ridiculous chest and back workout.

It’s been a long, lovely, beautiful day.  Church tomorrow morning, soccer tomorrow night.  I better hurry up to bed.  We may have to catch the late service in order to sleep a tad bit longer!

Ready for Fun

We have quite a few things going on this weekend starting this afternoon with some friends coming over and then they are going on a date while we watch their little ones!  2 girls, having them over is so refreshing!  They are so sweet and precious.  They always tell me how pretty my hair is and that they want to brush it.  They want to play with stickers and talk about Barbies and princesses. The most noticeable thing is how much calmer they are than my boys!  They are just lovely.

Breakfast was the usual.

My workout was a 40 min jog on the treadmill followed by my ab challenge and a stretch out. Hopefully soon I will be posting what my ab challenge actually is and my treadmill workouts.  Work in progress!

Baby carrots, grapes, strawberries, my tuna salad on an Orowheat sandwich thin. I also had an apple while I was preparing lunch.

I was a vegetarian for 2 years and this sandwich was one of the reasons I am slowly incorporating some meats back into my diet!

Date Day/Rescheduled Treat Day

It’s Thursday which means its…DATE DAY! I also decided to reschedule my treat day to today.  Good thing because my appetite was ready!

Yesterday afternoon, I had a little snack of an apple and some string cheese,photo 1 (2)and then repeated yesterday’s lunch for dinner.  After dinner I had a couple pieces of protein bread.

For breakfast I switched things up slightly!

Better Oats in Dark Chocolate with 1 tbsp. peanut butter

We started our date by going to Starbucks for my tall Misto and then going our separate ways for a bit….I know but sometimes when you have kids, you have to make the most of your alone time.  He desperately needed a haircut and I needed a manicure.  Luckily neither took too long.  We met back up and went to our movie.

I know the critics don’t have good things to say about it but I DO!  It was so fun!  It is a perfect date movie.  You have action, spy stuff, computer and techy stuff for the guys, but it isn’t over the top.  Then you have adorable Reese Witherspoon and hunky Chris Pine and Tom Hardy for the girls.  The guys were super tough but then sweet and vulnerable while they were with her.  It was a perfect balance.  I loved the music. I really loved Chelsea Handler.  I laughed a lot, and actually got laughing so hard in one scene I was crying.  It’s light and fun.  5 stars in my opinion!

After the movie we ate at Frullati, and I had the Rustic Veggie Melt on flatbread.  I was famished by the time the movie ended and finished my meal before I remembered to snap a photo. Thumbs down I ordered the combo meal which was half a Panini, chips and a drink.  I chose Sunchips and a Diet Coke. I REALLY loved it! I must try to recreate this at home!  It was super messy though, and I will probably eat it with a fork and knife next time.  Times like those I wish I still carried baby wipes everywhere!

We went to pick up little A and stopped for yogurt since I had been craving it for a couple of weeks now.

I made the mistake of trying to talk to the insurance company while eating this and didn’t really get to enjoy it.  I am not sure why I did that, I know better.  She had called me about a billion times already.  Ok, only twice. But still….either way it really wasn’t that good.  The cake batter yogurt was good but everything else was just mediocre.  At least I took care of that yogurt craving, until the next time that is.  Winking smile

 Treat Day was rescheduled for today and one of my FAVORITE things is trail mix.  Salty and Sweet is something I just can’t be trusted around.  I really avoid salt, and sweets, and I REALLY avoid the two combined.  So for my treat,  I mixed together mini chocolate chips, homemade granola, peanuts, almonds and dried cranberries.  I will most likely eat all of this in one sitting, graze on this through the evening.

Luke had a friend over this afternoon and the house was a bit chaotic.  I had planned a run, but that didn’t happen. Thumbs down Luke  goes to his dad’s house Thursday nights and Jeremy took Aidan to soccer practice so I get to enjoy an hour or so of peace and quiet! I am going to try to work on a few things around here while everyone is out and I can hear myself think!
