Hello Bob, we meet again

Yesterday, my morning started at 4:20 am when I woke up with a bloody nose……GOOD MORNING ALLERGIES!  *eyeroll*  I tried to go back to sleep but to no avail.  I got up to find that my coffee maker (Jeremy) forgot to get the coffee ready the night before.

He makes MUCH better coffee than I do and all I can manage in the morning is to push the ON button.  I started to get a pot going when he came in and took over.  Knocking a cup of water all over the floor in the process……We both just started laughing.  Hey, it was our Friday, nothing was going to bug us.

Breakfast was my yummy yummy oatmeal and then it was time to get the boys ready for school.  When I got back from dropping A off at school, it was time to spend some time with Bob.

Hello Bob, we meet again.

This picture cracks me up.

It was a little, and I stress LITTLE, easier than last week.  It didn’t take me 30 minutes of laying on the floor before I could get up again & I was able to fully function the rest of the day.  I was able do almost all of the reps this time, but I seriously felt like I was going to fall over at some points.  I am REALLY excited to add this into my weekly rotation.

I didn’t have a lot of time to eat so I made something quick.

photo 2 (2)

Dannon Vanilla Greek Yogurt, 1/4 cup Cinnamon Honey Bunches of Oats, 14 almonds and an apple.

I went to pick up little A and then made a quick grocery trip.  Luckily, this week didn’t require a detailed grocery project; we just needed a few things.

When I got home, I needed to bake something.  But first I needed a snack…..or two.

Hershey’s Air Delight – I had two little pieces of LUKE’s candy bar…I was so proud of my self restraint.

I started by baking a batch of Jamie’s Bread.

and then I realized that my ingredients for the Healthy Strawberry Cream Cheese Muffins were going to go bad so I made up a batch of those too.

photo 1

In this batch I used 1/8 cup Xylitol Brown Sugar Blend, the rest regular brown sugar, and substituted the oil for unsweetened applesauce.  I also remembered to put the wheat germ in it this time.  I added 2 tbsp. of water because the batter was a little thick, and the consistency turned out really moist.

They are really good again, but have a slightly different taste.  Although I have never used wheat germ before, I suspect this is what I am tasting.

Dinner was yummy yummy leftovers.  I baked some more corn tortillas and served the casserole over them.

Red heart

I set out a couple of muffins to eat right away and then stored the rest in THE BACK of the freezer for a rainy day.  They may be healthier, but they sure aren’t calorie free!

I am not as sore as I was last week after Bob’s workout, but I am sore, so I am planning an easy 45-60 min elliptical workout today. I have about three magazines I need to read.  Who ever said that you aren’t working hard enough if you can still read a magazine, clearly has never done the elliptical on level 10 for 30 min….just sayin!

Of note:   I am starting to think that my lack of appetite is not a lack at all.  I think it is actually a normal appetite. This is something I have never really experienced.  All of my life I have had a hunger for something more, a need, and I have filled those holes in my life with comforting foods. During my dieting phase, I was always either constantly slightly hungry, or stuffed. Never just satisfied and comfortable. I am starting to connect the dots with all of the small changes I have been making to my diet and in my behaviors. I was MUCH less hungry yesterday than I was Monday. On Monday, my breakfast was a sorry excuse for one and I paid for it later. Yesterday, I had a big breakfast, with a tablespoon of chia seed and my appetite was back to normal. It has been a real challenge for me to adjust to maintaining. The weight loss was easy in comparison. Maintaining it is the real challenge. I feel like I have just now taken the training wheels off and am on my own.  Breaking free from calorie counting and constantly weighing myself, to just focusing on honoring my hunger, respecting my fullness and making healthy food choices; the right combinations at the right times. It is still a challenge for me to not loosely add up how many calories I have eaten. I do it because it makes me feel safe and in control. I feel like I am learning to trust myself for the first time. It’s going to take a while, but little by little we will get there.

And that was your Wednesday…

Whew!  Today was a whirlwind!  I can’t believe its already this late.  I am currently waiting on the boys to return from soccer and then make dinner.  The quiet is so lovely.

Breakfast was not the best.  I was actually really sad about it. Crying face

~ 1/4 cup old fashioned oats

~ 1/2 cup unsweetened Silk Almond Milk

~ 1 tsp Spectra Chia Seeds

~ 1/4 small banana (part of it was bad, I am telling you, slim pickins come grocery trip time)

~ 1 tbsp. Peanut Butter & Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams

photo 2 (2)

I was disappointed because I had high hopes for the chocolate peanut butter addition instead of regular.  I was hoping it would taste like an oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips.  I LOVE this stuff on bread,  bananas, stirred into yogurt, smoothies…  but here it just didn’t add anything special.  Bummer.  Thumbs down

I did my leg workout today plus my ab challenge.  I had every intention to post the leg workout today but didn’t get a chance!  Soon I promise! I also wanted to go run this afternoon, but didn’t get to that either!

Why? You might ask?

Grocery shopping, prepping foods for the week and making pancake batter for dinner tonight!  Do you like my grocery list courtesy of my OCD? Me too, makes me happy.  Open-mouthed smile

After the gym I had this

Kashi Red heart

So glad I tucked that into my gym bag because it would be 2pm before I got to eat lunch.  I may or may not have been a tad bit Hangry Angry smile.

I made the batter for our Breakfast for Dinner night and then had a snack

You won’t believe this but this is the first fresh pear I had ever had.

It was delicious!

I emailed a sweet friend, started this post and then made dinner.

Jamie’s Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, eggs, & turkey bacon

I spread 1 tsp. of all-natural peanut butter on the pancake.

These pancakes are REALLY good.  I expected them to be a little sweeter, but then again regular pancakes aren’t really sweet, until you add a topping.  I loved the addition of peanut butter to these.  Syrup or jelly would be nice too.  This batch makes 10,  so I have some leftover batter for actual breakfasts this week!  Thumbs up

I apologize for the crummy picture but I was too hungry to wait for one that was pretty.  I am excited about our DATE DAY tomorrow!  No movie planned.  We have to take our doggie to the groomer and take my car in for the repair work.  Maybe I will get to sit in Barnes & Noble for hours reading gossip magazines.  One can dream!

But what I really wanted to do was…..

Last night I got the best night’s sleep I have had in a very long time. I didn’t wake up a million times & I wasn’t woken up a million times. I still woke up cranky. Confused smile Even though I get up before the rooster crows, I am not a morning person. What I really wanted to do was go back to bed. But kids need food, and direction so I had to get up and get my two hour head start anyway. Thumbs down

I was running behind this morning for some reason and realized I only had about 10 min to make and eat breakfast before I had to start getting Aidan and myself ready to leave. So I made something different!!!

photo 1photo 2

I really wanted my oats, but they take time. Time to cook, time to cool, time to eat.

This was a great alternative.

Fruit and Yogurt Parfait

~ 1/2 cup Dannon All-Natural Low-fat vanilla yogurt

~ 1/2 cup fresh berries (grapes & strawberries here)

~ sprinkle of chia seeds

~ 1/4 cup homemade granola

~ 7 almonds

I quickly got the two of us ready. Him for school, me for the gym. I had planned on a 5 mile run outside around my neighborhood this morning, but I realized I still needed to go to the gym two more times this month for a contest I have entered. I had planned on going Monday and Wednesday, but we missed Monday, so I needed to make it up today. Thumbs down Running on the treadmill for an hour is like torture for me. What I really wanted to do was get a mani/pedi, haircut, coffee, & sit for hours in Barnes & Noble, catching up on the magazines I have yet to read. But a girls got to have priorities. I made myself a deal that I would do 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the elliptical. About 15 minutes into my run I had to pee. Really? I mean can this get anymore torturous? I did my best to ignore it and ended up having a really great run. I topped out at 6.0 mph, which is an all out sprint for these stubby legs! When I was done I went to the ladies room, talking my way out of the second part of my work-out. The thought of staying another 30 min in that stinky gym made me sad. Then I thought, I know! I will do a lap around my neighborhood to finish this up! Brilliant. So I left with the full intention of doing another round of cardio at home. Then I got hungry half way there. When I got home, what I really wanted to do was eat! But then I thought no, no, no….you must finish this. You will feel terrible of you don’t.

So I did and it’s true what they say

During the last 1/2 mile, what I really wanted to do was walk. But I kept going, one step in front of the other. Sometimes that is all you can muster. Put one step in front of the other. Out of the kitchen, out the door. One step at a time.

I didn’t get anywhere near making a menu last night like I had planned, so that’s on the agenda this evening. Also dinner…

Ready for Fun

We have quite a few things going on this weekend starting this afternoon with some friends coming over and then they are going on a date while we watch their little ones!  2 girls, having them over is so refreshing!  They are so sweet and precious.  They always tell me how pretty my hair is and that they want to brush it.  They want to play with stickers and talk about Barbies and princesses. The most noticeable thing is how much calmer they are than my boys!  They are just lovely.

Breakfast was the usual.

photo 2

I added some pumpkin pie spice on top of the bananas.  Yum!

My workout was a 40 min jog on the treadmill followed by my ab challenge and a stretch out. Hopefully soon I will be posting what my ab challenge actually is and my treadmill workouts.  Work in progress!

I love Kashi bars, not as much as Larabars, but….almost.

Lunch was a repeat of a few days ago.

photo 4

Baby carrots, grapes, strawberries, my tuna salad on an Orowheat sandwich thin. I also had an apple while I was preparing lunch.

I was a vegetarian for 2 years and this sandwich was one of the reasons I am slowly incorporating some meats back into my diet!

Have a GREAT weekend!
