Breakfast Yesterday: Nutrigrain Waffle with 1 tbsp. Brummel & Brown (waaay too much), orange, Dannon Greek yogurt with homemade granola.

Today: Nutrigrain Waffle with 1 tbsp. natural peanut butter, strawberries and cinnamon, 1 orange.

Post workout snacks both today and yesterday: 1 cup cantaloupe with 14 almonds, Kraft Milk Bite strawberry granola bar (dangerously good).

Lunch yesterday: Big salad with spinach, watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, feta cheese, peanuts, carrots, and fat free balsamic vinaigrette.

Lunch today: Dannon Vanilla Greek yogurt with 1 tbsp. natural peanut butter, pumpkin pie spice and homemade granola, 2 pieces of Jamie’s protein bread.

Snacks yesterday: Quaker Granola Bar, cantaloupe & watermelon.

I wasn’t super hungry for dinner last night so I had some of the fresh protein bread I had just made.  Can’t say no to that!  Oh……and let’s not forget a few of these.

Thank goodness they’re almost gone.

Basically I have been living off fruit and bread with bits of protein here and there!   I am eating what I am wanting….no need to eat what you don’t want just to get to the stuff you really want.  Winking smile But I think because we have been really busy this week I am just grabbing what is convenient.  I don’t have to give any thought or put prep into it.  I mean at least it’s not chips and cookies, or fast food, but I can do much better than this. A Food Rut is what I call it!  I am going to REALLY make an effort this week to plan some meals.  I haven’t been able to spend the time I like to gather recipes and make out a grocery list.  I have been having to go grocery shopping on the fly and just wing it with a haphazardly made list of items we are out of.  As I was grocery shopping yesterday I started to get hungry.  I saw pasta and sauce and thought….”Ohhhh I want some spaghetti.”  I saw some hamburger buns and thought “Man, I want a burger.”  I saw a Boboli Whole Wheat Pizza Crust and thought, “Dang….I need that….I want some pizza!”  Then I thought ok, next week….I am making all of that!

What I am Loving Lately

I have done it 3 days this week and I am loving it!  It’s so challenging and fun.  I have been wearing my heart rate monitor to make sure I am not over doing since the first time I tried the class I felt like I was going to pass out.  I have been burning about 500 calories in the 60 min class and about 350 in the 45 min class.  There have been several times I have had to really pull back because it was too hard.  I love that because it means I have room to improve and something to work on!  It feels great to be out of that exercise rut.  Now, if I can just get out of the food rut!

Cetaphil Cleanser

I know this has been around for ages, but it’s new to me.  I LOVE IT!  I have oily and sensitive skin. This seems to have made my skin less oily, softer, evened out my skin tone, improved the texture and cleared up a recent break out over night. Jeremy’s skin is the same as mine and he will use whatever I use to wash his face.  I have noticed an improvement in his skin as well.

Finally, a simple day…

Wow, it has been a long day!  I woke up bright and early at 5am thinking of 20 different reasons I should go back to bed.  But, I just put one foot in front of the other and went to get my coffee.

Orange and my usual smoothie.

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 scoop EAS Lean 15 protein powder
  • 1 tbsp. chia seed.

I got some frozen peaches today at the grocery store soooooo, hopefully a new smoothie concoction will arise!


I was still incredibly sore from my workout on Monday. I am not sure why. Maybe because I took 3 days off from working out, maybe because I pushed myself a little harder because it was easier this time around. I don’t know, but….it still hurts to sit, stand & walk….I knew a few things this morning.  1- the last thing I wanted to do was workout.  2- I knew working out today was not a choice because I am most likely only going to be able to get 3 workouts in this week, and today was one of them. 3- the best cure for sore muscles is to do the same workout you did that made you walk like Frankenstein in the first place.  4- I knew that if I went to the gym, I would definitely be phoning it in on the elliptical at a level 8 for the entire 30-45 min.  I needed someone to kick my tail.  Jeremy mentioned he wanted to try Bob’s workout so I knew immediately that’s what I wanted to do.   I have to admit, I was concerned about Jeremy’s well-being during this workout.  He can curl 55lb dumbbells and bench press 225….but the man can’t spend 10 min in the treadmill without looking like he is about to die.  I told him over and over…..please don’t over do it….set your weights down during the jump squats…..take a breather if you need to.  Well, I was very proud of him for getting through the entire workout AND doing pretty much all of it.  I can’t say the same for myself the first time I did it.  As for me, today was the first day I didn’t immediately regret the decision and feel like I was going to die half way through.  I even did the very last jump squats, something I have never been able to do before.  I am SO glad I did this workout again today.  When I started, I didn’t want to workout, I felt sluggish, sleepy, sore and a was having a little bit of exercise guilt for not wanting to workout.  Afterwards I felt revitalized, refreshed and tired but full of energy!  Plus I had worked some of the soreness out.  I am still sore but not as bad.  I am sure I will be sore again in the morning….I am not kidding you, it is no joke!

I didn’t get home from the grocery store until about 6:30 and arrived way too hungry.  It took me a while to settle on what I REALLY wanted….but this was perfect.  Can’t go wrong with a plain Jane sandwich! After dinner I had 1 cup of Honey Bunches of Oats dry.

I am really looking forward to tomorrow.  It’s Aidan’s last day of school.  They are having a picnic & Jeremy and I are having our last date for a while.  We are going to see The Avengers and I am not sure what else.  But that’s one of the things I love most about our dates, we can go anywhere.  Browse Barnes & Noble, have coffee or lunch and solve the world’s problems, have an entire conversation, reconnecting after the long week.  It’s the simple things I love the most.

An “Ordinary Day” Date

I felt it was a good idea to go to the grocery store yesterday with a little snack in my belly. Otherwise, I’m sure the M&M trail mix and Popchips would have ended up in my basket, a definite NO NO in this house. Because Mommy has food issues….my poor children. I hope to God that I am teaching them good eating habits and not dooming them to a life of healthy food rebellion.

My “snack” was in reality an early dinner because I was really hungry at the time and I also knew I would be gone for a while. Well past dinner time. A little 150 calorie snack was not going to keep me satisfied for the long haul.

Dannon fat-free yogurt (I can’t find traditional anymore Thumbs down), 7 Blue Diamond natural almonds, 1/4 cup Honey Bunches of Oats, & 1 piece of cinnamon swirl protein bread.

When I got home from grocery shopping I was a little hungry so I toasted 1/2 a Thomas Whole Wheat Bagel Thin with 1 tbsp. Sunbutter. I also had a few handfuls of Great Grains Cereal in Banana Nut Crunch (just purchased from the store & I think may be my new favorite, just have to try to practice portion control) and ~ 10 peanuts.

Today’s Breakfast

1/2 Thomas Whole Wheat Bagel Thin, 1 tbsp. Sunbutter, 1/2 large banana, sprinkle of cinnamon & Chobani 2% Strawberry Banana Greek Yogurt.

Thursday is our “Date Day”. We usually do something out of the ordinary but today we just enjoyed a normal day…..WITHOUT kids. Which is a “date” in itself. It was so nice to have a conversation with with no interruptions. A lot of time we just give up talking to each other because we can’t even finish a sentence. That’s why “Date Day” is so sacred to us! Next week is Aidan’s last week of school so we have just one more date left before the summer. Next year he will start Kindergarten which means we will have several opportunities to date. Looking way forward to that! Times they are a changin!

For our “date” today we went to the gym and I had yet ANOTHER fantastic workout. I really felt like I could have ran some more when I got home. I even suggested to Jeremy that we do Jillian (TWSS) but quickly dismissed that idea! I ran on the treadmill for 30 min, topping out at 6.0 mph again! (YAY!) and then did a version of my at-home upper body workout. I did the shoulder workout, 3 sets of 15 bicep curls w/ 8lb free weights then 3 sets of 25 bench dips.


So yummy again!

I love these, they are so yummy. They have mild sweet and nutty taste that really complimented the turkey cheese combination.

I am finding myself having a daily Spark instead of a weekly Spark. It is making all the difference in my energy levels through the afternoon. Today my Spark lady gave me a sample of the pink lemonade. It was ok, but the mandarin orange is my favorite of them all.

Request Denied….

So my abundant energy yesterday took a complete nose dive around 3:30 yesterday afternoon.  I was counting the minutes until Jeremy finally made it home.  I was so tired that I was laying in bed by the time he got home and didn’t even have enough energy to get onto my children who were completely taking advantage of the fact that Mommy was collapsed in the bed.

“Aidan, go brush your teeth.”


“Luke have you put lotion on? And please go put some socks on your feet, I mopped today”

“Boys please stay in your rooms until Daddy gets home, don’t talk to each other and please stop fighting.”

5 min later I hear them fighting… the living room.  Whatever, I didn’t even care anymore.  Been there before?

Jeremy walked through that door not a minute too soon.  He was so sweet and brought home some ice cream, but I was too exhausted to eat it!  Thumbs down I was dead to the world by 8pm.

I slept well last night and felt really good this morning.  I am still feeling really good which is surprising because normally I am worthless by 2pm.  Which got me thinking.  I had a really incredible workout yesterday.  Not only did I run, but I came home and did level 2 of 30 Day Shred, THEN I mopped our floors.  But by 3…..forget it.  It was literally like when your cold medicine has worn off.  It was sudden, I was driving home from the grocery store and it hit me.

This morning I had another incredible run.  I ran for 30 min increasing the speed every 5 minutes.  I did walk for 5 min in between but finished like I was some sort of machine at 5.8 for 2 min and then 6 mph for 2 min, which is fast for these stubby legs.  I really surprised myself.   I was definitely in “the zone”.  I did some ab work afterwards and then some stretching.  When I got home I felt like running another couple of miles or doing a DVD.  But I had to start on some other things so I didn’t have the time.  For some reason I decided to look up L-Carnitine which is the other supplement in the raspberry ketone I am taking.  I found that one of the benefits of a carnitine supplement is that it has been shown to reduce fatigue.   I am wondering if it has anything to do with the way I have felt during my workouts.  I took one this morning with breakfast and my morning vitamins and I also took one with lunch instead of dinner (like I did last night).  I am feeling great!  I did just drink some Spark,  so I am sure that has something to do with it too.  But it’s something to note!  I decided on the TopSecret formula after a woman at GNC recommended the L-Carnitine alone.  She had some good results in fat loss with it.  I have heard of L-Carnitine but have never been one for supplements so I never paid much attention to the uses of it.

What’s funny is the above article says it is “likely ineffective for improving athletic ability. There is no evidence that taking L-carnitine supplements will improve exercise performance or endurance, even in trained athletes.”

Well, I am here to tell you now….it seems to be workin for me…..Winking smile  But then again, I could just be having a good couple of days!

So far I am liking the supplement.  I should be getting my kidney bean extract sometime soon.  I am still deciding if I want to start taking it as well.  I think I will wait until I am finished with the ketones so I don’t contaminate the experiment Winking smile

Another Smoothie.  I have been craving them in the morning.  I think because it’s not as chilly and they seem to settle faster enabling me to get to the gym earlier.  Even though I LOVE this combo, I need to come up with a new one.  Today’s smoothie was exceptional and super thick.  I almost had to eat it with a spoon.

I love the Parchment bake so much.  It is so quick and easy to make.  It only takes 20 minutes to bake, there is ZERO mess to clean up and it is delicious!

Running Mojo is Back

I was feeling 110% better yesterday thank goodness!  I got up easily and didn’t really get tired until later in the afternoon around 5 which is saying something since come 2pm I am usually worthless….

My day started out normal, coffee, oatmeal, did some chores, got the boys ready for school.  All with minimal drama and trauma!  I may or may not have threatened to confiscate their favorite toys if I heard another argument.  What?  Girl’s gotta survive!

After I dropped Aidan off,  I went straight to the gym.  I was in the mood for a long run on the treadmill.  I have had a lot on my mind lately and the rhythm of running just always seems to help me sort things out. The gym was empty and my favorite treadmill was available!   I am pleasantly surprised that these great runs are becoming more and more frequent.  I think the treadmill and I may be becoming friends again.  For a while I couldn’t even spend 5 minutes on it without wanting to stick a fork in my eye.  It was probably due to the seasonal overcrowding.

I felt so incredible when I was finished.  I stretched out for a while and then couldn’t get home fast enough to eat some lunch.

Lunch was…….interesting.  We were out of everything so I had to get creative.  I was out of apples and nuts, my usual appetizer, so I ate a Larabar, undocumented because it was gone in about 2.5 seconds.

The last of the roasted sweet potatoes (not even a cup), 1 cup mixed berries, deviled egg and chicken salad on half (only had half left) of an Orowheat Sandwich Thin.

I made the chicken salad with canned chicken, 1 boiled egg white, 1 tbsp. relish, 1 tbsp. Miracle Whip Light, mustard, salt and pepper.

…and yes, it was a gross as it looks.

I mentioned the last time I tried this canned chicken I did not like it at all.  I thought it just needed to be cold.  Even though this was a little better, I’m still not a fan.  I ended up using a few spoonful’s and dumping the rest down the garbage disposal.

I put sweet potatoes on top and that made it more palatable.  Strange combination but it worked!

I never never recommend eating something you don’t love.  If it’s not good, don’t eat it.  I really didn’t have many options yesterday, so that is why I ate the nasty chicken salad.

When I had finished lunch I sat down to start the “Grocery Project”.  I was able make a menu and a grocery list in just a few hours!  You can do wondrous things when you are completely focused and uninterrupted.  I read somewhere that it takes a full 15 minutes to refocus on a task after being interrupted.  I can say that is some truth!

I was hungry, really hungry, just a few hours later so I ate a Kashi Bar (not pictured) and 1/4 cup of Archer Farms Berry Blend low-fat granola.  photo 3

After picking up little A, we picked up some cat food from Petco and then went grocery shopping.  Aidan fell asleep with his head resting on his arms over the handle of the basket.  Why didn’t I take a picture?  His little nap made for a very pleasant trip.

By the time the grocery shopping was done…..2 hrs later…..I was hungry…..again.  BLERG.  On the way home, I ate one of the Blueberry Muffin Larabars that I had just bought.  After putting all the groceries away I sat down for a formal snack.

Finally…..I wasn’t hungry anymore, at least for a few hours!

After dinner I had Tootsie Roll and 2 jelly beans.  I really tried not to have them since I am trying to “detox” from my sugar binge over the weekend, but I REALLY wanted that Tootsie Roll.  I blame it on Mrs. Murphy.  The good news is that I didn’t want anything more. I was satisfied with just a little taste instead of it setting me off and feeling like I wanted to devour the entire bag of jelly beans like a mad woman…..Maybe the “detoxes” are beginning to take less time.  Normally I have to give it at least a week before I stop craving massive amounts of sweets after every meal.

I was exhausted really tired by the end of the day, so I got the kitchen cleaned up and pretty much went straight to bed.  Jeremy got home and took care of the rest of the evening’s duties and I was crashed out by 9pm!  HALLELUJIA!

I am hoping to have another great run today & get some errands ran.  There may be also be a mani-pedi in my immediate future.  One can dream!

A Good Good Friday


Good morning friends!  I hope everyone is having a lovely Easter weekend.  I love Easter.  I love what it represents, I love all the beautiful pastels and pretty clothes.  I love the feeling of renewal that it brings.  What I love MOST is that I can now wear white!  Yes, I am ashamed to admit that I scoff at those who wear white all year round.  Do they not know the rule?  No white after Labor day until Easter?!? I know, I am awful.

I am going to have to make this a quick post as I slept in until almost 7:30am and I have to get my day started a.s.a.p.

Breakfast yesterday, was my oats at about 8am.  I like to note the time, because it is interesting to me how long it takes to get hungry again after eating different types of food.  The oats made a HUGE difference yesterday.  I could really feel the difference all day.  While I didn’t really feel like going to the gym, I didn’t feel like working out at all, I ended up have a really great run on the treadmill.  I lasted an entire hour.  I did some intervals, some slow jogging, some sprints.  I did what felt right.  I knew I needed to spend an hour so I didn’t push myself too hard but I stayed steady.  Slowing when I got tired, speeding up when I felt recovered.

When I got home at about 12:45pm, I wasn’t really hungry yet so I snacked.

When Jeremy got home from his extra job we went to Target for some groceries to make Easter Dinner & we all got new pairs of shoes!  The boys got flip flops and I got a pair of sandals. That’s another thing I love about Easter, new shoes!  Afterwards we picked them up a pizza for Pizza Night.


I made a salad around 6pm.

Baby Spinach, baby carrots, honey roasted peanuts, a slice of pepper jack cheese (diced), grapes and light vinaigrette.

I also cut a tiny sliver off a regular slice of pizza.  Oh my word it is so good.  I could totally go overboard.  I remember when I would scarf down 3-4 slices.  *YIKES*  Even though I was hungry, I wasn’t ravenous.  It’s all about the oats!

I also made some cupcakes.  They have a cream cheese frosting that you have to frost right before eating.  There are 24 of them so I didn’t frost and decorate them all.  I decorated two for Jeremy and I (Aidan wasn’t interested) and then immediately ate them.  Taking a  picture was an afterthought!  I will definitely be sure to capture them tomorrow!  They were delectable!

I have to note what Aidan said about the cupcakes.  I swear this child teaches me so many things.  He has been better than therapy at times.

Me: “A.J. you want to try a cupcake?”

A: “Sure!” ~takes a bite~ “Mmmm good!”

Me: “Do you want one of your own?”

A: “ummm, no, they are good, but no thank you!”

How precious and polite.  I need to remember that.  “These are good, but no thank you!”

Well, I am off to get ready for a soccer game, a picnic and a birthday party!  I hope everyone has a blessed Easter!



Little Kids, Big Messes

Rainstorms make for an interesting morning when you have two little boys you need to get to school.  Tuesday mornings are very carefully orchestrated in my house, so when a little obstacle like rain enters the picture, well, things can get quite tense around here.  Fortunately they were both very cooperative and helpful so that made things very pleasant.  Yesterday, I had to make sure Aidan was “extra fancy” because it was picture day!

Then I was off to work on my fitness.  Tuesdays I normally do an hour of cardio.  But today I changed things up a bit.  I did 30 min on the treadmill, keeping it pretty slow because  I thought I had another 30 min to do over on the elliptical.  It went by super fast & before I knew it I had been on there for 20 minutes.  At some point during the last 10 min I decided I was going to do the 30 min of cardio and then finish up my upper body workout from Monday.  The gym was empty so I had plenty of space to work this time. Thumbs up

Then I did 2 sets of the shoulder work from my upper body workout.  The first set I used 8 lb. free weights and the second set I used 5 lbs.

Oh my heavens, my arms were jelly.  I could barely buckle my seat belt!

By the time I left the gym the skies were turning blue!  That totally made my day.

When I got home, I was shocked to find exactly how messy we had left things.  It was like the old days when there was a party and everyone may or may not have been drinking a few too many cocktails.  When you wake up the next morning to survey the damage & think  “What in the world happened in here?”.  Towels everywhere, clothes strewn about, dishes all over the place.  “What is the sticky mess all over the floor?”  It never ceases to amaze me that I go to bed with a tidy house and by 8am I have to spend at least an hour getting it straightened up again.

Surprisingly, this held me over for several hours.  I was able to get the messes cleaned up, do some laundry, and start the “grocery project” for this week.  Time flew by and it was time to go pick up little A.  Mommy’s Day Out is never what it implies…..Confused smile. I knew I was going to need a little extra mental focus and energy later in the afternoon,  so I made a Spark and was out the door.

When I got home I still wasn’t hungry but I tried to eat a few things hoping it would ignite somewhat of an appetite.  Thumbs down

Over the course of the afternoon….

I had what was left of this Chobani yogurt.  I got it for the boys but they didn’t like it so we wrapped it up for later.  I added a small amount (~ 1 tsp.?) of PB, and 2 tbsp. of homemade granola,

a handful of nuts &

a white corn tortilla w/ guacamole, fat free re-fried beans, reduced fat shredded cheese and salsa.

I am not sure what’s going on with my appetite.  I have noticed that since I have been working on eating intuitively, I have days like this.  It’s usually after Mrs. Murphy; after a period of an insatiable appetite, and has a lot to do with whether or not I have been sleeping enough.  It makes me feel so much more in control when I am in tune with my body and its needs from day to day.  Instead of following a strict calorie counting program, I have learned to really get to know my body, trust it, and treat it a lot better.  We are all born intuitive eaters, but somewhere a long the way, food rules were enforced & emotions were traumatized.  Leading us to over-eat or under-eat and head straight to food for comfort.

My little furry friend and I spent the next few hours or so going through the kitchen and house making a grocery list, making a menu & clipping coupons.

Turkey Burger on Nature’s Own Whole Wheat Bun with shredded cheese (we are out of sliced cheese) and mixed greens, Alexia Chipotle Sweet Potato Fries, and Archer Farms Olive Oil & Herb California Blend.

Even though I still wasn’t hungry, I made myself eat all of this, especially since I skipped dinner Monday night.  I have learned that under-eating eventually leads to over-eating in later days.  I also don’t want it to affect my workouts.  I think my body may just be trying to balance out.  My weight was up a few pounds yesterday morning.  Even though I really don’t pay much attention to the number, it does help me understand what might be going on from day to day.  I have noticed that if my weight is up a little, my appetite is a little less over the next few days.  If my weight is gets down past a certain number, my appetite is out of control.  I am such a nerd to find this stuff fascinating! Just kidding

After dinner I spent the rest of the evening finishing up my “Grocery Project”.


Finally finished at 9:45pm!!!! Thank goodness for Spark!  Note to self: do yourself a favor and really try to get this done on Monday.

On the agenda for today – workout, grocery shopping Thumbs down (I really wish I could have gotten it done yesterday), & a soccer game (if the fields aren’t too muddy).  It’s going to be a GREAT DAY and remember…..
