Mother’s Day Make-up

So I pretty much have been feeling like death since yesterday afternoon.  I am sort of feeling better now after a 2 hour coma nap but I am still absolutely useless.

I was feeling a little off yesterday morning and slept in until 6:30.  We were late getting to the gym so I had time for just a light breakfast

Orange and Banana


I had an excellent workout.  I am completely convinced that the L-Carnitine is to be thanked for that.  I ran my little tushy off on the treadmill for 30 min. straight and then did a version of my At Home Upper Body Workout at the gym.  I did a set of the shoulder part with 8 lb. hand weights instead of 5lbs.  Then a set of 15 bicep curls with 8lbs.  I repeated that 3 times. Then I did 3 sets of 25 bench dips. In the past I have only been able to complete 2 sets.  I did one set of 10 full push-ups and then 2 sets of 10 on my knees.  I did my ab challenge and a long stretch out.  I felt so good!

I have been taking the Raspberry Ketones/L-Carnitine for almost 2 weeks and the White Kidney Bean for about 1 week.  I am really liking the ketones, I feel they are working.  The Kidney Bean is hard for me to remember to take.  You are supposed to take it immediately before your two largest meals of the day.  The only thing I am thinking about immediately before a meal is my meal! Winking smile So I haven’t been consistent.  I can remember them in the morning before breakfast, but after that…its been very random.  I am going to stop taking them until I am finished with the ketones.  I already take several supplements and adding two more is almost too much.

After lunch I planned on cleaning my house and doing a bunch of food prep.  Then I felt like I had hit a brick wall.  I took a nap for a bout an hour and felt a little better when I woke up but still pretty crummy.

I drank my ever trusty Spark and began to feel better.

I got both bathrooms cleaned, washed and cut up all of our fruit, then I got dinner ready.

This was really good but my appetite wasn’t at it’s peak so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I think I normally would.  The boys loved it!  It was super easy and quick to make.  I think I will add more seasoning and try it in the crock pot next time.

Today was my Mother’s Day make-up day.  Since Jeremy had to work last weekend, he planned to make it up to me today.  We planned to go to brunch and then go do a little shopping.

We went to La Madeleine.  I love this restaurant and haven’t been in forever.  After this morning we decided this is our new place.  I bet you didn’t know Jeremy proposed to me here!Red heart  I was so happy that the weather was lovely this morning and we were able to sit outside.  I love to eat outside but in Texas it’s usually either raining, too windy, too cold, too hot or so humid you can barely breathe.

I got the Country French Breakfast.  The Potato Galette was amazing!  The entire meal was absolutely magnificent but upon researching the nutritional information, definitely a special occasion treat.  Glad I decided to look that up AFTERWARDS!

Jeremy got the American Breakfast which was basically what I got minus the Galette.  He was bummed he didn’t get one!

What we ordered for Aidan topped both of ours.  The Cinnamon French Toast.  OH MY WORD!  TO DIE!  Jeremy and I kept stealing bites.  Glad I didn’t look up the nutritional info for that until afterwards either.  Outrageous, but oh so delicious!

Aidan was in a terrible mood and I was feeling super crummy so we decided to just forget trying to go shopping and came home.  Then I crashed in my bed for two hours.  I woke up feeling a lot better but am still feeling super run down and headachy.  Why am I feeling bad you may wonder?  My BFF Mrs. Murphy of course!  Don’t we ladies just LOVE her and her ability to ruin our lives for 3-4 days?  Hopefully the worst is over and I will be feeling like my usual perky self tomorrow.  I have a long morning at church and hopefully Aidan and I can have a better day tomorrow!







I foresee Jeremy bringing me a gallon of milk now instead of chocolate and flowers! God bless that man for putting up with me.

An “Ordinary Day” Date

I felt it was a good idea to go to the grocery store yesterday with a little snack in my belly. Otherwise, I’m sure the M&M trail mix and Popchips would have ended up in my basket, a definite NO NO in this house. Because Mommy has food issues….my poor children. I hope to God that I am teaching them good eating habits and not dooming them to a life of healthy food rebellion.

My “snack” was in reality an early dinner because I was really hungry at the time and I also knew I would be gone for a while. Well past dinner time. A little 150 calorie snack was not going to keep me satisfied for the long haul.

Dannon fat-free yogurt (I can’t find traditional anymore Thumbs down), 7 Blue Diamond natural almonds, 1/4 cup Honey Bunches of Oats, & 1 piece of cinnamon swirl protein bread.

When I got home from grocery shopping I was a little hungry so I toasted 1/2 a Thomas Whole Wheat Bagel Thin with 1 tbsp. Sunbutter. I also had a few handfuls of Great Grains Cereal in Banana Nut Crunch (just purchased from the store & I think may be my new favorite, just have to try to practice portion control) and ~ 10 peanuts.

Today’s Breakfast

1/2 Thomas Whole Wheat Bagel Thin, 1 tbsp. Sunbutter, 1/2 large banana, sprinkle of cinnamon & Chobani 2% Strawberry Banana Greek Yogurt.

Thursday is our “Date Day”. We usually do something out of the ordinary but today we just enjoyed a normal day…..WITHOUT kids. Which is a “date” in itself. It was so nice to have a conversation with with no interruptions. A lot of time we just give up talking to each other because we can’t even finish a sentence. That’s why “Date Day” is so sacred to us! Next week is Aidan’s last week of school so we have just one more date left before the summer. Next year he will start Kindergarten which means we will have several opportunities to date. Looking way forward to that! Times they are a changin!

For our “date” today we went to the gym and I had yet ANOTHER fantastic workout. I really felt like I could have ran some more when I got home. I even suggested to Jeremy that we do Jillian (TWSS) but quickly dismissed that idea! I ran on the treadmill for 30 min, topping out at 6.0 mph again! (YAY!) and then did a version of my at-home upper body workout. I did the shoulder workout, 3 sets of 15 bicep curls w/ 8lb free weights then 3 sets of 25 bench dips.


So yummy again!

I love these, they are so yummy. They have mild sweet and nutty taste that really complimented the turkey cheese combination.

I am finding myself having a daily Spark instead of a weekly Spark. It is making all the difference in my energy levels through the afternoon. Today my Spark lady gave me a sample of the pink lemonade. It was ok, but the mandarin orange is my favorite of them all.

My Dr. Oz Experiment

I am going to fly through what I did for my workout and what I have eaten so far today so I can get to what I REALLY want to share.

Breakfast was the same as yesterday.

  • 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tsp. Jif natural peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp. chia seed
  • sprinkle of cinnamon.

Despite the intense soreness I have from yesterday’s workout, my workout today, was AWESOME!  I left the heart rate monitor in the drawer this morning and I just had fun on the elliptical while reading Redbook and listening to “Today’s Hits” on Pandora.  It went by quickly and it felt really good.

When I got home, a free Iced Oatmeal Clif Kid Z Bar greeted me in the mail. YUM! My favorite.

So what I really want to talk about is what I saw on Dr. Oz yesterday.  I love Dr. Oz.  I love that he is very holistic and approaches medical remedies with natural solutions as opposed to medicating the problem.  *Soap Box Alert*  I believe America is extremely over medicated and I think it’s because of greed.  Everyone makes money and everyone stays sick.  I believe that food is the best form of medication.

I believe that with lifestyle changes and getting all the crap out of your diet you can prevent and or cure pretty much all forms of disease and every day ailments.  Of course there are exceptions…..genetics plays a large part in many illnesses, but with all the chemicals in our food system, we are slowly poisoning ourselves.  Ok, off of soap box. That is why I love Dr. Oz.  He is an advocate for all that I believe.  He rocks my socks!

So yesterday I watched an episode that I had DVR’d.   He talked about five body types and their weighty problems.

  • Big Bottoms
  • Big Belly
  • Big on Top
  • Big Thighs   *DING DING DING*  my ears perked right up
  • Big All Over

It’s no secret that people store fat in different places.  For me it’s my thighs.  It did make me feel better that he said it is the hardest place to lose weight.  Even at 113 pounds, my thighs still jiggled & I still had cellulite, while the bones in my shoulders protruded, you could count my ribs and I had a faint image of a 4 pack in my stomach area.  I felt too thin and have since gained back a few pounds.  I feel great at this happy weight, but man do I wish I had thinner thighs. There I said it.  We all have body issues, it never ends.  It doesn’t help that I think I have the shortest legs on the planet.  It’s just the way God made me, I have accepted that.  But then……Dr. Oz came on and told me I might be able to so something about it!

Now I am not one to jump on a band wagon of a quick fix.  They don’t work.  If you want to be thin, it takes work and dedication.  Period.  I do believe that supplements can help you, but should never be relied on solely for weight loss. They are simply a “supplement”.   In my opinion, weight loss is mainly a matter of the mind, but that’s an entirely different post.  So on to what he talked about.

He talked about different supplements for the different body types that will specifically target the fat in that area.  You can click HERE to find your body type.  I will talk about the Big Thigh and Big All Over.

He said to try white kidney bean extract for big thighs.

What?  An all natural carb blocker?  Yes Please!!!  I do love me some carbs.  Probably why I have big thighs.  I think I can lay off the carbs, not cut them out all together, but I can absolutely add more veggies and since I am no longer a vegetarian I can try more lean proteins.

I’m going to be honest, I did my research and read it that some people have had some unpleasant side effects in the form of gas…..but whatever, it’s worth a shot….and I can experiment with different doses.

I am getting my hands on some White Kidney Bean Extract ASAP.

Maybe these, but I am still doing research as to which ones are the best.

Now the next thing he talked about was Raspberry ketone.

I love working out with my husband because, he pushes me out of my comfort zone by showing me exercises I have never heard of.

He helps me use heavier weights by lugging them around for me as my puny arms & back cannot lift up a 45 lb. plate for a leg circuit, and he makes me laugh by doing this impression,

when I absolutely can not lift myself up even a single inch more.

Rolling on the floor laughing We did chest and back today through a series of supersets.  Totally out-of-my-comfort-zone supersets at that. They left me barely able to hold the pen to write down what we were doing. I can’t wait to try it again! You start out with a warm-up weight, add more for the second set, a little more for the third and then drop back down to the beginning weight for the last set of ten.  For ex. On bench press, my sets looked like this

Set 1 Bar (45lbs)

Set 2 Bar plus 10 (55lbs)

Set 3 Bar plus 20 (65lbs)

Set 4 Bar (45lbs)

The point is to work to fatigue & by the last set it should be hard to lift the lightest weight. image

Breakfast was, SURPRISE!  A little different.  We slept in this morning until 7 and had to be at the gym pretty soon so I wasn’t super hungry for breakfast but knew I had to eat something.

Then it was off to the gym to join Jeremy for his ridiculous chest and back workout.

It’s been a long, lovely, beautiful day.  Church tomorrow morning, soccer tomorrow night.  I better hurry up to bed.  We may have to catch the late service in order to sleep a tad bit longer!
